I think they're being arseholes about it because you've driven their price down to be honest. I got mine through Listers VW Nuneaton via Carwow but didn't actually go to the main showroom at all - it was all done via email and their Fleet Sales division.

What are you paying for your car can I ask? I got my 5 dr, 6 speed, black paint (when a cost option), sports button, elec wing mirrors, light and sight, cruise and park for £18,641 on the road inc delivery via transporter to Cardiff and a tank of petrol.

If you're paying any more then just demand your deposit back and go via a web service. This is not acceptable really and you may not want to kick up a fuss as you think you've got a good price, but everyone's getting that price but also getting their car too. You started this thread and yet you're still waiting? That's not right

Its interesting you say that, a friend of mine suggested that mine is delayed as it was a 'website deal' rather than walking into the dealer and paying full price from VW.

I ordered mine through DriveTheDeal who were excellent, can't fault them and the price they got the car for was incredible. Would be annoyed to find that my car has been delayed because its a discounted order rather than a full fat retail order, as I was not told this would be the case!

I was just wondering that as Andy said he'd taken the carwow quote into the Retail part of the operation that the Sales people might have been slightly put out, and were playing dumb. I don't know much about any of the online sites but my experience was pretty much perfect - including getting my tracking code very quickly.

I'd be interested in whether your cost was that much cheaper than mine for future reference as I never got around to getting a quote off DTD. I could have got mine another £1k 'cheaper' if I'd taken the VW finance but it would have cost me a lot more over the term compared to getting my own loan out separately so I went for the higher upfront cost.

Yeah my experience post DTD experience with the dealership in fairness has been great, they even let me adjust the spec I wanted after the deal had been negotiated but before it had been confirmed/ordered by them which was handy.

I ended up paying 19500 OTR list price for a car that if you spec on VW is over £23k so not a bad deal all in all. I did finance through VW and got the £1000 deposit contribution, so i'm only paying 18500 for the car technically.

I won't keep it for the full term, so not too fussed about the finance as soon as the remaining balance/value of the car evens out i'll chop it in.

It's worth remembering that if you take out the VW finance (and get the extra discount) you can pay off the finance in full within a couple of weeks or so of taking delivery and you'll still retain the discount.

As for delays in cars ordered through discount sites, I don't think this is the case. The only reason that there might be a delay is if the dealership has used up it's allocation of cars for that period and has to wait to add yours. However, if they give you an order number within a day or so of ordering then you know it's been added to the ordering system, so any delay from there on is down to production.

For interest, my B GT 5 door (with a lot of options) took 5 months from order to delivery and the on-line tracker was reasonably accurate, though, obviously, weeks went by with no change to the status. Nearly all the 'action' took place in last 5/6 weeks and it took nearly 3 months to get a confirmed build week.

I wasn't aware this was possible, so thank you for the tip for next time. I'm still not sure I will want to spend my time completing all the Dealer finance paperwork and then try and pay it off early, as I don't trust them at all but that's just my paranoia...

The finance paperwork is all VW Finance generated and requires 2 or 3 signatures (if I remember correctly) at most. Settling the finance is done directly with VW Finance who will give you a settlement figure and a period in which it is valid. You just transfer the money via your bank using your agreement number as a reference. It really isn't a painful process and for an extra £1000 off, definitely worth the effort.

I think you also get the £199 three year (30K miles) maintenance package offered when you take out a PCP too, so that's another incentive.

I also got my car though drive the deal so don't think that's the case. Is your dealer up north or down south?

Spoke to VW customer services this morning, not particularly helpful they explained that yes the car had been delayed and apologised repeatedly, but what they said didn't really make sense!

Car has provisional build week of 36, when originally it was build week 26 (last week) but they said it should be built by 14th July, and they can't do anything further unless its not built by 14th July, and to call them back on 13th July if the tracker online has not updated! Useless!

I've just had a confirmation that my GTI will be delivered next Thursday. It's taken 71 days and the service from Rob Noone at VW Merthyr has been great. He's even going as far as bringing the finance documents to my office and will pick them up the next day.

It's bizarre how things have been so different for everyone. I think I've just been very lucky.

I just ordered my GTI last week from Arnold Clark VW, Glasgow. I have an estimated delivery on the 7th of August, I take it this will be far off!

Can't wait to get the car. I've been reading this thread and the GTI looks great!

Cheers

Interesting that you were able to sign documents off site, I was told they must be signed on site. Annoying as the dealership is not in my city.

I was told build week 35 this morning, having originally been told week 25. But also had the message that the car will be built sooner- which raises the question what use is a build week to us anyway!? It seems odd that they can give a provisional date, but seem confident the cars will be built sooner. I'll be putting in a chasing call too a week before you, although I wasn't given a date of the actual build.
