Yer 1/4 mile times are just how you can launch, circuit laps are the skill and feel of the car. The mpg is better actually, only slightly, but still it makes a difference. The cupra is lovely, it's in for repair, as its transponder for the sport button wasn't working. But love it, and I have to say seat done a wonderful job, especially with the Megane and the civic type r are so harsh, and hard yet the seat is comfortable. Brilliant car, shame I never got my polo, but glad I chose that

I would seriously take any 12-14 week quotes they are giving you with a pinch of salt!

I ordered first week of April and am still waiting for it to be built. I reckon mine will be approx a 6 month wait when it eventually arrives.

Dealers seem to quote 12-14 weeks for delivery, whereas if you speak to Volkswagen UK e.g. customer services, they advise that GTI/R models they expect to be 16-20 weeks BUILD time, then a further 4-6 weeks delivery so anywhere up to 6 months or longer.

I'm now in a courtesy car they've given me as mine has taken so long, and to be honest i'm looking at other cars at the moment that are 'available' or in stock as i'm BORED of waiting and have no confidence as to when it will actually arrive!

Ouch, that doesn't sound very good at all. Have they given you any ideas as to why it's taking so long? Have you ordered a 3 or 5 door, as they say that 5 door can take up to 5 months?

Got my order number today so at least I can track it online and not nag the dealer for updates every week. I did keep asking about the lead times and said I'd heard it can take much longer, so if it is delayed (hopefully not) then might be able to get a courtesy car or something as well.

Went for a 3dr manual in black, with Climate Control, Nav, Sports Pack, Parking Pack, Convenience Pack and App-Connect.

No reason why, Volkswagen UK customer services told me I should never have been told 12-14 weeks, and that I should have been given estimate build time of 16-20 weeks!

Tracker won't update that often, you'll likely get build week confirmed, built and shipped in 1 week.

I ordered a 3 Door DSG Reflex Silver, with most options including Nav, Winter Pack, Cruise/Park, DCC Sport Pack etc.

They've now given me a MK7 Golf 1.6TDI DSG, which strangely enough is almost the same spec as the Polo its Silver with most of the options I added to the Polo lol which is good enough until it arrives, or I get bored and cancel it.

Would be interesting to see a table of everyone who has ordered a GTI, what gearbox and 3/5 dr and then order date and delivery date, might help people in the future.

VW's website does say DSG gearboxes could take longer though, so that might be a reason, although 6 months is still way too long

For me the wait itself isn't the problem, its the poor communication of accurate build times. E.g dealer telling me one thing, Volkswagen telling me another seems there needs to be some improvement with communication of accurate delivery times!

If I was told it was going to take 6 months, fair enough its not so much of an issue but to be honest if I had of been told it would take 6 months I probably wouldn't have ordered. So perhaps thats there plan, lure you in with 12-14 weeks then end up waiting 6 months!

Yeah agree, I'd have thought about it if dealer had said how long it would be. Also a reason would have been nice. There seems to be no certain options which are causing the delays. I just keep goin with the thought of hopefully how good the car will be

As to wait times, I put my order in late June and the VW tracker says the car has arrived in the UK. My dealer says a mid September delivery date but I think they have been a bit conservative and I think it will be early next month.

I just feel VW hasn't planned for lots of sales of the Polo GTI model in the UK for whatever reasons they have hence the seemingly random and long waits for delivery. For example I don't know if the wait times for a Golf GTI are any better which I assume will sell more units. Clearly all this can take the shine off the excitement of getting a new car or put people off altogether.

Many of the posts on here have helped to manage my expectations and also everyone so far has said that the car is great. Andy has the patience of a saint and as the first post on this thread deserves some freebies from VW!

My dealership used to handle both VW and Hyundai cars. The sales people told me that Hyundai used to tell the customer exactly when the car would arrive but VW couldn't. Even they didn't understand VW's problem with this.

It certainly seems a bit odd, all this uncertainty around delivery dates.

A friend of mine ordered a new BMW last week, the day after the order was placed he got a call from the dealer telling him what date his car would be delivered to the showroom.

That's a built to order car too, not one already on the way.

VW need to pull their socks up I think!

I'm in the same boat, Andy. The car will be worth it. Mine gets built, so VW tracker would have me believe, in two weeks. I orderd in the first week of April. I've since had to get my dealer to agree the hold the price for my trade in and pay for an MOT. I have consistently asked for a reason which they've been unable to give.

I was thinking about making a quick, anonymous, online survey to collate peoples order dates / delivery dates (or estimates). Would anyone be interested in that?
