Adding GTI side badge emblem to car

Post by pologti2012 »

I have a 2012 Polo GTI in white and am thinking of buying the following OEM GTI badge to add

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-VW-GO ... 3aaf4fcf79

The new Polo GTI has these on the side - see following pic for the newer year and car I have

Couple of Q's:
1. How easy would it be to stick the badges on and would they fall off?
2. Is it worth the money for these in your opinion?

I'd say, get along to your local VW dealer's parts department and find out the cost of the badges for the current Polo GTI just in case they are slightly different - maybe smaller, than the Golf GTI that you have listed.

As for cost, like anything, it is worth what you want/need to pay, so if you want them they will be worth it to you. I have a B8 S4 Audi and it comes with V6T side badges, but is supercharged and not turbocharged, a special edition in USA got Supercharged side badges, they can be ordered in via Audi but cost a bit more than these GTI badges, like a mug I just had to have a set so bought "lookie likie" ones off ebay and have just done nothing with them in case they look crap, so I'd say go for the real thing is you want/need them!

Edit:- then once you have them, start measuring up a few Polo GTIs to see exactly where they should be located and make up a fitting "stencil" with a sheet of paper then tape them to the sides of the car after wiping clean the area with something to remove polishes etc. You have the body line above the location and the edge of the door opening as reference points and then check to make sure that they are placed parallel to the body line, job done!

Edit:- what I should have written was "template" not "stencil" - I'd think!

If I'd gone for the new GTI - which I nearly did - the first thing I would have done is remove those side strake badges.

Why? They look great - subtle but effective!

ive decided to go for it and buy a pair of these. however i cant seem to find a dealer near me that has the new Polo GTI for me to do a trace

Instead is it possible to get some sort of exact scale measurement using the following two close ups?

I might have to use some tape and stick along the side to make sure the badge isnt applied wonky though from the second pic it does look like it points down a little

I added the side badges to my 6R GTI, the Golf ones as it happens as the 6C was still not on sale.

I used a piece of string and tape across both door handles to work out badge placement, as you say, the badges point down a little.

I used photoshop on a 6C side picture to work out the line goes from the middle of the door handles to one third down the headlight. That was on a 5 door, bit trickier to place on a 3 door.
