Re: New GTI
Just an update on my Polo GTI. Took it on a long drive last week which really helped to loosen up the engine. So at just over 500 miles I did notice this on my last commute to work which has a bit of A road. The car is starting to feel even more flexible adding to the enjoyment and there are quite a few people out there surprised by its turn of pace. Be warned - it will bring the boy or girl racer out of the driver and trash your fuel consumption! Well I didn't buy it for the mpg so! All. Of you who are waiting for delivery will not be disappointed!

I didn't buy it for the mpg either but it's still averaged about 35 mpg over 3,400 miles since new. My Mrs regularly does a 40 mile M-way journey and over this period her average mpg has gone from around 43 mpg on the run to about 46 mpg recently - she assures me it isn't because she's just driving more sensibly!

Re: New GTI
Great feedback. I'll be happy with 35 as get around that now from 1.6 fiesta. Can't wait for some extra power lol

Re: New GTI
I agree! It's really quite difficult to stay sensible and to get 46 mpg is impressive. I have got to 42 on a longish haul but I just live caning it round roundabouts from time to time. Today I was followed by a Peugeot 208 Gti and sadly I couldn't resist. I think they were surprised that this tiny red Polo was outpacing it - had to stop of course for safety and legal reasons.

Re: New GTI
I agree that it is the amount of grip it has going around corners, followed by the slingshot effect you get when you floor it, that is probably the most rewarding bit of driving the Polo on normal roads - along with being able to nip quickly past something as required on A-roads.Norfolk Boy wrote:I agree! The one thing that nearly caught me out is that the Sport button makes the turn-in so much more rapid that it can take you by surprise the first time - so you've got to be aware you've got it pressed to make sure you don't end up driving into the scenery by mistake! I don't use the button that much any more as the normal handling is brilliant for everyday use - I'll use it only when I think I'm going to need the extra response at some stage - or just to listen to the end note harden up a bit...

Re: New GTI
I didn't get the sport button and at first I did regret it because the ride in the standard version is firm but now I've got used to it and it's absolutely fine. Do agree with the slingshot effect around sharp corners or roundabouts!

Lucky you, congrats!
Do you know if the cars been registered yet, and if you're getting the first years insurance free offer? Any chance you could have a look / ask on Friday if they're continuing it past 30th Sept?[/quote]
Car has been registered and done final paperwork on Monday. I'm only 21 so sadly don't get the free insurance. But more than likely they will continue it I would imagine, I'd be surprised if not.
Can't wait to pick it up now and take it for a blast!

Re: New GTI
Finally saw another polo GTI in Norfolk, a 3 door in blue metallic. So still very rare in these parts! Round trip of 120 miles today to try out the strong acceleration and handling. Car seems to be getting better and better! Starting to try some 'heal and toe' on downshifts as the car is so lively.

I hope you meant 'heel'...Norfolk Boy wrote:Finally saw another polo GTI in Norfolk, a 3 door in blue metallic. So still very rare in these parts! Try not to put it into the scenery - pretty though it is around there...

Re: New GTI
I suppose 'heal' brings in a whole other meaning perhaps cathartic! I will try and be careful though.

Re: New GTI
My flash red 3 door arrived in the UK on Tuesday, so hopefully should get it some time next week.. Hope it's not quite as disappointing to drive as I have found my 6R GTI to be!!

Re: New GTI
Just a heads up if anyone is interested, VW are still doing the same finance and free insurance offer from 1st Oct:
http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/buying-guid ... rivate/418
So if you're picking your car up in the next few months and you meet all the criteria, don't forget the free insurance
