Re: New GTI
They'll remove all the protective elements used whilst it was in transit, prepare number plates, have it valeted and a pre-delivery inspection is carried out to make sure everything is as it should be. They have to schedule all of this in amongst other cars in for service or repair.m0rrthal wrote:When the car arrives at the dealership - what exactly is happening to it that it needs additional 2-3 days to be ready for pick up?

New GTI

Just picked mine up in Glasgow and driven it 200 miles non stop down to N Yorks.
First impressions very good of course. It doesn't feel any less premium than my £50k Merc. It's probably even quieter on the M Way as the 30 profile 19s on the CLS make for serious tyre noise. The GTIs sound system is better also, once you max out the treble.
I'm a little disappointed by the graphics on the Comp Media on first acquaintance. But no time to fiddle and play with it yet.
I had it in Sport mode all the way across the moors on the A66. Sure it felt bouncy to start with but I found if you grinned and bared it for a few miles it seemed to become purposeful.
Must say the steering feel is no better than the CLS, although that's more of a credit to the Merc than an issue with the VW.
Certainly the controls are all intuitive and well placed. Shame about the reflection of the headlight switch in the door mirror.
LEDs are good (and fortunately survived road kill at 70!)
It's a well balanced package, and feels way way faster than the CLS despite only half a second in the 60 times.
Maybe even more torquey than the diesel. So torquey at low end I kept forgetting it was a manual!
So no regrets. It's all looking good so far
(Averaged 41 btw)
Ps. Despite the light and sight pack the wipers don't seem auto??
No sign of hill hold either??
Must take time to the RTFM tomorrow lol !

Yep - the position of the wiper stalk for auto is not very obvious. Move it up one position if they aren't working in the one they're in.polocks wrote:think wipers must be up in position one for auto

Re: New GTI
I've noticed that on mine - initially it seems very bouncy when you put it into Sport but after a few miles the bouncing stops. I wonder if there is something in the way the damper actuators work which means it takes a few miles to settle down.humbermart wrote:

Good to see you enjoying it and interesting to see you rate it at a similar level to your Merc. I also think the finish is very good, but for me the thing that really makes it fly is that its size means you've a lot of road to play with in placing it which gives you more confidence to drive it quickly as you've more room for error. Certainly I wouldn't be happy hustling a larger car down some of the A roads simply because of the laws of physics in trying to control the body movement.
Enjoy your new toy - try not to lose your licence though, I find myself overtaking on A-roads with a frequency that I haven't done since I was in my 20's. Brilliant car that always wants to play!

Hey Chaps...
Haven't posted for a while been having too much fun in the car but I've ran into a few issues..
Most annoying for me has been irregular vibration through the steering wheel and excessive wheel spin through accelerating.
Not sure if my wheel balance is way out or there's something more serious going on...how's everyone else's in regards to these issues!?
Other than that I'm a happy chap.

Nothing like that so far. Have you changed the traction settings? Otherwise a trip to the dealer perhaps. No problems so far touch wood. A month in and still enjoying it! I agree with Penarth Blues because you do want to go quickly so a potential licence loser!

so i ordered a Polo GTI 3 Door Silk Blue Manual with sunroof sports pack and car connect app a few months ago ( BUZZING !)
Had a white r line up until now 12 plate.
Got a few questions if anyone can help thatd be great, does the GTI have the hill holder like other polos ? (hold the breaks for few seconds when let go to help with hill starts)?
also my build week was set to commence this monday 5/10 however ive just checked tracker and it says in transit already , any ideas on how long i can expect to wait?
Thanks!

Re: New GTI
Thanks for all the comments.
I completed a 320 mile trip from collection in Glasgow, back to Humberside this morning (via Stokesley)
The drive down the A1 this morning between the A19 and M62 was not that pleasant due to horrendous rain and standing water, but the GTI took it in its stride. Probably due to the heavy weather, the mpg dropped to 39.
It certainly feels like a full premium product, and even more refined than the Merc in some areas (road noise, plus of course no diesel drone/rattle). Seats must be comfortable as no issues with my back!
On the whole I like the sound system, but do feel that it's clipping the top frequencies, almost like the front tweeters are not connected. Pushing up the treble helps, but still not quite as bright a sound as I'd like.
I'm sure I'm going to have to get the Kenwood/Garmin sat nav module retrofit. has anyone had this done?
(or managed to get some form of mirror-link working with the non App-Connect spec Composition Media system??)

I was exactly in the same boat as you. Mine was supposed to get into build week on the 5th but went straight to in transit
Phoned my dealer up and they said, maximum o 2 weeks to reach the uk, 72hours to get to deslership and then 36 hours at dealership to sort the final stuff!
Hope this helps

According to VW's website (http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/new/polo-gp/which-model) Hill Hold it's standard on the GTI.samb1992 wrote:

Mine has just changed to In Transit too, I would think approx 4 weeks is what they suggest.
Re: New GTI
hopefully quicker! seems they are ahead of schedule as surely it takes longer that two days to build !
Excited to say the least , have only seen a black one in the flesh !
