and be sure you get a water pump with a metal impeller
Re: Clutch and timing belt
S,
I've just done a clutch on a 1.0 and I noted what I learned (from Alex) on my thread down the page a bit:
"Newbie, maunual clutch cable conversion-Arosa "
I got a good deal on a Borg&Becks from GSF.
Prices in November:
Borg&Beck HK6486 £54
SACHS 3000158001 £72
LUK 620134700 £74
Valeo 006742 £89
'Special' tools:
M8 Spline - long (inner CV)
M6 Spline - any length (release sleeve)
30mm 12 point socket (drive shaft nut)
9mm 12 point socket (clutch cover)
Useful tool:
LONG 18mm combi/ring spanner and/or 18mm extra deep socket, either will work.

Re: Clutch and timing belt
I would go for a Sachs over a Borg and beck as they have been known to use recycled friction material in the past - personal choice though.
Re: Clutch and timing belt
Thanks for all that info! Much appreciated!

Brake shoes with fitting kit Pagid £26.00
Front discs - Pagid £36.53
Front pads - Pagid £20.82 All prices include VAT
Thanks

Re: Clutch and timing belt
Dayco is a cheaper brand - a bit like vtech from GSF. Wouldnt go near it.
Pagid are ok
JP group - part of quinton hazell. Again - a bit like vtech from GSF.
VW arent very expensive for the waterpump - theyll also give you a surcharge back so just go genuine if you can
Brake shoes - unless you are sure they need doing, dont bother.
Try https://www.aceparts.com/ - They do a great range of febi at great prices. Febi are as good as OEM. Sachs for the clutch, febi for the rest.

Pagid, are they not a EuroCarParts brand?

Re: Clutch and timing belt
Pagid parts that euro sell are made specifically for them under license
They are 'OK'. There's better available
