Re: New GTI
Ahhhh some lovely looking GTIs here all fresh and sparkly and new...
My own is currently sailing around the West coast of France I do believe: https://www.vesselfinder.com/vessels/CI ... -232079000
Not long to go now. But do I wait until the 1st or March to collect it or not?
(I'm thinking 'not')

I thought that but was told by VW that all GTis have been taken from Portugal to Emden Port in Germany. Subsequently the CITY OF ROME is going to Sheerness and then returning to pick up the GTIs from Emden port on the 13/14th and they will arrive on the 16th in Sheerness. Looks like VW have two different tales going on again.

I should add. I hope I'm wrong and you're right as it means my car will arrive sooner than I thought!CJO wrote:Hey Bear.Bear wrote:Ahhhh some lovely looking GTIs here all fresh and sparkly and new...![]()

Absolutely gob smacked and heartbroken that a tyre fitter could be so careless, I have this gouge running around a third of the wheel, refurb required, it's going back and they will fix it I make sure of that.

I've now done around 5,000 miles in mine. Still think it's a great little car. I bought a cheap Mazda MX5 recently for some weekend open top fun and it's a real blast. I feel I now have the best of both worlds.

That really sucks; I'd be livid. Careless tyre fitters and diamond cut alloys aren't a good combination.JackM_24 wrote:Absolutely gob smacked and heartbroken that a tyre fitter could be so careless, I have this gouge running around a third of the wheel, refurb required, it's going back and they will fix it I make sure of that.

Hindsight's a wonderful thing, but it's always a good idea to get the tyre fitter to agree the condition of your wheels before they fit new tyres, and to inspect them with you after the tyres are fitted. Take photos if necessary.
I think it costs around £75-£80 +VAT to get a diamond cut wheel refurbished and I've heard good reports of Lepsons (check out their website; http://www.lepsons.com). They often offer a free courier collection and delivery. If I were you, I'd want to get it repaired at a place of my choice, and get the tyre company to agree to pay the cost.
I've found an independent tyre company not far from me who have a 'touchless' / lever less tyre fitting machine, which should eliminate damage to the wheels when fitting new tyres, although that doesn't stop a careless fitter damaging the wheel when it's off the fitting machine.
Good luck. I hope you get it repaired to your satisfaction, and at no cost to you.

Re: New GTI
Whether it's true or not I cannot say, but my dealer did allude to the fact that the cars manufactured in Portugal did indeed used to get taken to Germany before onward dispatch to the UK, but he said that is no longer the case.CJO wrote:Hey Bear.Bear wrote:Ahhhh some lovely looking GTIs here all fresh and sparkly and new...![]()

Its hard to know exactly what is true, but speaking economically I hope (and believe) that they don't do this any more...

True. It's frustrating that VW can't be exact. If only they were as reliable as their engine nox software engineers....Bear wrote:Whether it's true or not I cannot say, but my dealer did allude to the fact that the cars manufactured in Portugal did indeed used to get taken to Germany before onward dispatch to the UK, but he said that is no longer the case.CJO wrote:Hey Bear.Bear wrote:Ahhhh some lovely looking GTIs here all fresh and sparkly and new...![]()

Re: New GTI
VW told me that my car was going to Emden, even though the ship was going to Sheerness. They were wrong. The ship went to Sheerness/Grimsby/Tyne and my car was offloaded at Grimsby. I reckon the City of Rome will sling your car off at one of those UK portsCJO wrote:True. It's frustrating that VW can't be exact. I sincerely hope so. Although I'm hoping they have a better method than slinging it off! Re: New GTI
You would think so, though when my Dad worked at Ford he was right by the car conditioning center, he said the number of cars that came off the ships and needed stuff like new bumpers and damage touching up you wouldn't believe! All this before it goes to someone to pickup what they think is their shiny, untouched and immaculate new car!CJO wrote:I sincerely hope so.
