I have not owned a petrol car for years,I just found the MOT emission result sheet which I hadn't looked at on the day.
The results look ok to my more diesel oriented brain - any comments about the actual figures ?
Fast Idle
CO = 0.119 (limit 0.200)
HC = 15.00 (limit 200)
Lamda =0.997 (limit 0.970 - 1.030)
natural idle
CO = 0.123 (limit 0.300)

Thanks Alex - its the first petrol car I have MOT'd since 1984 and the emissions test is much more relaxing than what they put the poor old diesels through 
I think the new CTS,new plugs and air filter paid off LOL
I just change the air filter at MOT time these days - the polo air filter must be one of the less attractive design features of the car : )
My old 306 is much easier for normal servicing !

Yes replacing the air filter does take a bit of your time, one thing to watch out for is to make sure that the blue divider seal is in the right place etc. Though VAG thoughtfully numbered all the screws, maybe one of these jobs you need to use a low torque electric screwdriver on - I didn't so got good exercise and sore arm muscles!
