Issues with iPhone in new GTI

Post by Fox1429 »

Anyone else had a problem with playback via USB in their car?

Basically every 20-30 sec the music cuts out for a split second then resumes. Sounds like the tracks are 'jumping'!

Any one else experience this?

Any idea of fixes?

Cheers.

My Polo won't even allow connection via USB with my iPhone! Had some arguments with the dealer but they reckon my car was chosen without the option to have Apple USB compatibility.

As for the jumping, I get that when I connect via Bluetooth - as well as popping in the speakers and sound distortion. Might need a software upgrade?

We've had the exact same problem. Only solution I've found is to use an SD card instead. You have the initial pain of transferring the files, but it works perfectly every time.

I got a 64gb Cruzer Fit and just leave it in the USB port all the time, can hardly see it as well.

Thanks for the replies.

Works fine via Bluetooth but it's a pain in that you can't charge your phone the same time (otherwise the USB automatically takes over) and I've also noticed that the volume via Bluetooth is much quieter so if you change back to radio etc you have to remember to turn it down first!

I've gone through the sound setup and can't seem to find anything for Bluetooth volume!

Ive had the same issue myself with both an iPhone and iPod and was going to start a topic before I saw this. First noticed it with my iPod and thought it might be because it has a lot of music on. Plus iPod classics aren't a current product anymore so didnt think it would be worth my while going to the dealer with. So I tried the same thing with my iphone via the usb and the same thing happened. It still has a lot of music on it though so I borrowed the wifes iPhone which has 1 album on it and plugged that in - the same thing happened, the music jumps/cuts out every 30 seconds or so.

Playing music via bluetooth or CarPlay works absolutely fine. Im going to my dealers this week with an unrelated issue so I'm going to mention it then. Not sure how well Ill get on though, sounds like it might be an issue with them all.

My iPod classic works fine through USB. No jumping or cutting out.

I'll give my dealer a call tomorrow to see what they say too. Keep me posted on how you get on and I'll do the same.
I know it's not a major issue but nevertheless it should work.

I'll also be interested to hear what they say but I rarely plug my phone in to charge as the Bluetooth works so well and this issue is then just avoided.

I have the feeling it is the Bluetooth and USB connections fighting each other and you may need to disable the Bluetooth connection from your phone when you plug in (fairly simple from the front screen of most phones).

Just tried that (knocking the Bluetooth off) but it still does the jumping thing.

Think I'll take a leaf out of your book though xbd just use it via Bluetooth. Most my journeys are under 10 miles do don't really need to charge it in the car.

If I get can't other issues (only had the car 3 days) I'll mention this to the dealer the same time.

If this is the only 'issue' I get I'll be happy enough.

Ah - good to know it's not a conflict then. If it's any consolation I've had the car 10 months now and this just hasn't been an issue for my use, including many long journeys. The ability to switch between different phones quickly via Bluetooth allowing different peoples music choices is a real bonus and this route has been rock solid in terms of playback for me.

Yeah in the grand scheme of things it's no big deal.

I can always charge the phone and listen to radio 2 anyway!!! Lol (showing my age!)

Mine does this when I use non-genuine cables. If I use a proper Apple one (the expensive ones from the shop, not ebay cheap ones) then it works perfectly.

Out of the 3 I tried one is genuine (came with the phone - albeit a year ago) and still does it unfortunately. Maybe I'll buy a new genuine one and try it again.

That's interesting, how long have you had the car. Wondering if it's a software issue. Are you able to find out what version of the software you've got.
