VW POLO GTI 1.4 2014

Post by joshlyden »

Hi everyone, I'm the proud new owner of an absolute beauty. It's a black VW POLO GTI 1.4 from 2014. I'm also new here and I have a few questions.

1. I'm extremely excited about my car and I've been looking into possible mods. Any ideas on what might be best to go for? Looked at induction kits, dump valves, springs to lower the suspension, upgraded headlights etc... Any thoughts would be great, I'm open to any ideas from things costing a small fortune, to things as small as stickers, things to enhance performance or things to make it look nicer, inside and out. [emoji5]

2. My Kenwood DNX521DAB head unit has proved to be a slight disappointment. It wasn't stock and was fitted by the retailer I brought it from which is down in west England Devon but I live in the south east Kent so taking it back to be looked over isn't an option. The aux cable just in front of the DSG gear stick doesn't work when connected to my phone. Could this be because it hasn't been wired up properly? Also, this head unit isn't compatible with newer phones like my iPhone 6 and so I can't play music from my phone through the USB. However there is an SD card slot and you can actually use a USB stick to play music through the glove box. Although, I'd like to be able to just Bluetooth my music to the head unit, is that possible with something like a wireless Bluetooth dongle thing? Do they even exist? Or... if that fails I wouldn't mind just using an aux cable if I could actually get it to work. Removing this head unit has also proved to be a nightmare. To be honest, I'm pretty useless when it comes to fiddly things so it might be simple but I just don't know how to do it, any guidance would be much appreciated.

Also... Am I positing this in the right forum? Really showing I'm a newbie now lol. I've posted this in a few different ones to maximise the chance of being replied to as I don't know which forum my queries really apply to...? I hope I'm not bugging anyone.

I'm not very familiar with aftermarket equipment like your kenwood system and performance increase also isn't my thing, sorry.

Definately needs lowering looking at the side on pic - heard goods things about either Eibach or H+R springs which sit the car lower but don't give a hard ride

Don't bother with a dump valve as VAGs use recirc valves and atmos valves (which give the whoosh noise) can throw up fault codes and sound chavvy

The Bluetooth fitted around 2014 wasn't very good(bury something fitted at the dealership when it arrived) it can be wired up correctly to enable wireless streaming find a car audio/phone installer to have a look at how it's been fitted

Another option is to get a vw retro fit(Google)to fit a vw Bluetooth module

Hope it doesn't drink oil ..which many 1.4 models were renowned for. ;)

Several questions I'm slightly curious

The Bluetooth is it a little rectangle with a touch screen? If it's this then this then it needs modifying to enable streaming or a.software update if.your not able to make calls

The socket in the glovebox are you attempting to plug your iPhone lead into the USB lead theirs a separate iPhone lead 30 pin or lighting it won't work unless you use the iPhone cable these are called mmi or ami cables

You're aux maybe broken due to the dab fit or turned off have you checked the settings failing that you can buy a mmi aux adaptor
