2003 Polo E, Brake pad sensor wire/abs
2003 Polo E, Brake pad sensor wire/abs
Recently had my front pads and discs changed after ignoring warning light for longer than I should have. After having new ones fitted at local garage, the mechanic explained to me that my 'check brake pad' warning light would still come on as the sensor wire had been cut or had snapped. This seems strange as the warning light was never on until they was obviously worn down and then it came on, and nobody has cut it. Anyway, I've been advised that I need to get a sensor cable that has abs? for the front left to be able to get my warning light taken off, does this sound correct and can anybody direct me a link to one to purchase. Visited local VW Dealership and was quoted £55 for one.

The connector for the wear sensor gets very brittle with age
It can be repaired with a new housing and repair wires for little more than a fiver in parts. I did it the other day on mine

If you could convert your self into someone that keeps an eye on brake pad wear, you could get that function switched on using VCDS.
I repaired mine on a late 2000 Passat, that was dealer that sheared it replacing a wheel bearing, the further incentive to repair and not replacing was that on that car, the new cable came complete with an ABS wheel sensor, so was a lot more expensive that the later cars!
