Has anyone had their Blue GT decatted? With/without map?
Did you get it custom built or was a downpipe from another VAG model also suitable for it? (Golf mk7 1.4tsi act?)
Really want mine decatted but cant find one anywhere online... might need to get a custom one made up!
(Already have a custom catback exhaust fitted and think a decat would just finish it off nicely with the sound and add a bit extra power)
I have enquired to the place that fitted my exhaust and will update to see what they say regarding the price etc.
Ps I posted this ages ago in another part of the forum but this section seems to be a lot busier so might get a better response here hahah
6c Blue GT Decat
Re: 6c Blue GT Decat
I would say a custom job would be the best and most cost efficient way to decat the Blue GT. There are very few off the shelf mods for these, however maybe look for an Audi A1 decat?
On a different note are you still running the custom cone filter induction kit or have you gone back to a panel filter? I will be changing mine soon to a K&N/BMC panel filter or an induction kit so would like to hear how the induction kit is going for you?
Thanks

Re: 6c Blue GT Decat
Word of caution your car should not pass an MoT without a cat, okay if the modification is carefully considered and you can afford the time you can always put it back for the test.
An associate of mine runs a highly modified Morgan + 8 on the road and in sprints/hill climbs. He declared all his modifications to his insurers supplying them with a detailed schedule which clearly showed removal of the catalytic converters, an additional premium was agreed. He recently, following an arguement with a tractor submitted a claim. The insurers declined his claim pointing out that his insurance was only valid if his car was road legal and his was not as it was of recent build and sold with cats as standard. He is fighting the decision but has been advised he is unlikely to succeed.
A further trap way be lurking in the background should you intend to drive in London after the new low emissions regulations come into effect. Part of the enforcement regime includes roadside emission checks, roll up sans cat and you are toast.
Sorry to be such a damp squib but there are things you need to consider before you go ahead with removing you pollution control components.

Re: 6c Blue GT Decat
I got a message back from the guy and he said he would need to use the flange from the original cat/downpipe meaning I couldn't keep the original to change back for trade in...
Might try and source an aftermarket one that would fit from a different model or buy a second hand downpipe that he can take bits from to manufacture the new one!
Regarding the legalities I will never drive in London (live near Glasgow) and my car will be gone before its first MOT in 2 years time so that won't be an issue. and I wouldn't inform my insurance of the decat but I have already told them about exhaust changes so going to leave it at that

Re: 6c Blue GT Decat
Your choice obviously but don't expect low emission legislation to be restricted to London, it's the old case of London today, your place tomorrow. The pollution problem is worldwide but such legislation provides a useful way for governments to take in cash without unpopular general tax increases. Do you think Ms Sturgeon will pass over that opportunity?
If you don't tell your insurers about the mod and then make a major claim the assessor will find it even easier to refute your claim.
Having said all of that many motorists have done the same thing and got away with it and I'm not expecting emission check points on West Nile Street just yet.
Have you considered a high performance cat? All the advantages of de cat (whatever they may be) and none of the disadvantages and it will mean that you can sell your car without the legal and moral obligation to tell the buyer it is not road legal.
If you choose to gamble the odds are in your favour, I wouldn't but I'm just a grumpy old git with far too many miles under my belt.
Whatever you decide I hope it gives you lots of fun, I'd hate to tell you some of the things I've done to cars over the years, some daft, generally fairly useless but mostly with two fingers to the law but providing great fun at the time

Re: 6c Blue GT Decat
I'm going ahead with the decat! The guy is building and fitting the downpipe for £200 at the expense of the factory downpipe! But I'm going to buy a second hand one for trading the car in when I put it back to standard. Also declared it on my insurance and they aren't asking for any extra.
I'll post some pics when it gets done if anyone's interested!
And Ciano91! I still have the induction kit but have a ram air foam filter because the metal was heating up on the mushroom and burning the stuff on the underside on the bonnet and was also corroding a bit.
