oil pressure switch / sender

this oil pressure switch/sender, has been leaking & the oil was going straight onto the exhaust header so clouds of smoke, anyway, question is is this part readily available, need one asap, is this a common fault

Yes. Go to your local VW dealer and get a genuine one though as copy ones are known to fail
