Wire from front foglights?

Post by metz »

Hiya guys,

I looked in the haynes comic book and i've determined the live wire for the front foglights is Yellow and White...looked at loom near fusebox and found the right wire but the problem i have is where the eck does it go from here?

Theres no plugs or anything, it just disapears into the loom never to be seen again.

Any info on the elusive yellow and white wire would be greatly appreciated

cheers

The yellow and white wire goes into a white plug with a brown earth wire. You're meant to plug the foglight wiring loom into this. VW don't make them any more though, so you need to chop off this plug and make your own loom.

There are instructions on the Club Polo website written by me that explain it better. 8)

wot are you trying to do with the thing, is the question that will determine the best answer

if you're just looking for the circuit that goes live when you flick the switch and the headlights are on, so you can plug the lamps into it, hunt around for a white (well, nasty horrible off-cream covered in dirt) 2-pin socket matching the design of all the others under the bonnet, except with nothing connected to it. IIRC it's pretty close to the ECU. nip that off leaving as much wire as possible (and turn into an interesting xmas decoration), and solder / twist / crimp / gaffertape / whatever your flyleads off the lights onto the remaining wires. sorted - functional foglamps.

doesn't solve the problem of getting em to come on with just the dim-dip though, which would make them more practical (in fog, not to bez around like some nob in a saxo round town in the rain)...... a year and a half on, still trying to figure it. seems getting your switch stuck *just right* halfway between sidelights and headlamps will make the front fogs come on with just the parking lights, but thats a bit extreme. DD would be better. not sure how to work that tho :(
