Interior dome - switch illumination - there isn't any !!
Hi
Picked up my 2016 Polo R-Line a couple of weeks ago and have noticed there is no illumination of the switches on the interior lighting.
Should these be illuminated? It's a real pain trying to find the switches for main light and reading lights in the dark...

If you mean the switches in the roof console by the rear view mirror and in the centre of the roof lining (for the rear seat lighting), then no, they don't illuminate in my 2016 GTI.

Yes - I am referring to the lighting in the roof console. Thanks for clarifying.

However it depends on the dome lights model you have from factory.

Thanks for that. I've got same light as you have in your R-Line.

an r-line always has the lighting in the front and the back (the 'big' unit) so the W8 lighting will not fit

Re: Interior light switch illumination - there isn't any !!
Hi Master ciclo. I wish to swap out the stock front dome light unit on my GT TSI (IND) with the above unit from the Passat with the red LEDs. Need your help with the following two doubts:
1. The stock unit is fixed to the roof with two screws. Will the above unit be fixed in the same way? I looked at a lot of pictures, but I'm not able to figure it out.
2. I understand that I will need to make an adapter. I have all the part numbers, but need help with the wiring sequence. Also, I think the Passat unit has four input wires, while the Polo unit has three. Where does the fourth wire go?
Thanks in advance.

1 yes it is
2: the 4th wire is for the illumination signal (grey/blue, 58d). Have a look at how the wiring goes i.e. here:

Thank you. More questions:iichel wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2019 6:46 am 1 yes it is

1. Looking around on the web, I found reference to a frame (VW part number 3B0867599A) into which the Passat domelight fits. Does the frame in the Polo have the same part number? Or will I need to buy the frame as well?
2. I found the wiring sequence on Drive 2, and also found out that pin no. 17 of the headlight switch needs to be tapped for the fourth wire.
Thanks in advance.

You do not have to replace the frame. It's a direct fit. Pin 17 of the light switch is fine, it's the grey/blue wire.

Re: Interior dome - switch illumination - there isn't any !!
Hi iichel. I'm ready with all the items required for the install, and have one query. The back light of the headlight switch is always on, and if I tap its connector, the back lights of the dome unit will also stay always on.
But I would like them to come on with the headlight switch, like the other ambient lights (window switches, instrument cluster, etc.). To ensure this, I plan to tap the dimmer switch connector.
Will this work? If yes, what pin number would I need to tap?

Hey, I think you have misunderstood the functioning of light switch. The red back lights(ambient) turn on only when you switch it to sidelight or low beam mode.TheLizardKing wrote: ↑Fri Aug 30, 2019 7:37 pm

The back light of light switch is on for a purpose to make you identify it in the dark easily.
You can tap +58d for your new dome light from any of the following places:
1. Light switch connector(grey/blue wire)
2. ESP button switch in your gt(grey wire)
3. 12v lighter connector. (Purple/brown wire)
I hope it helps,
