My GTI is a year old in September. Well I've had it a year but it seems to be telling me now to get a service on it now. It's only less than 7k miles but I believe you have to get a service otherwise the warranty would be void.
I'm looking at places such as In and Out who only charge £99 as oppose to VW who charge well over that.
Its fine to use these guys right? Doesn't have to be VW? Warranty will be ok?
Cheers.

Re: Service
No, you don't have to have your car serviced by a franchised VW dealer for the warranty to remain valid. However, if you are leasing your car, I'd check the terms of the lease as usually, the leasing company make it a condition that the car is serviced by VW. Not sure if this is also the case with a PCP agreement; if you do have a PCP, then I'd suggest you check to see if there's any restrictions on who can service the car.
If you do get your car serviced outside the VW dealer network, whoever services it must use VW or VW approved parts and fluids/lubricants that meet VW spec, and you need to have documented evidence of this to present to the VW dealer if you need to make a warranty claim. Also bear in mind that;

- when the VW dealer services a car, they will check for any software updates and apply these to the car at time of service. By getting your car serviced by an independent garage, they won't be able to check for / apply any software updates.
- you won't have a VW service stamp in your service book, which might be reflected in a lower trade in value offered by a VW dealer if you part exchange your car against another VW.

Thanks! It's PCP, I'll send them an email to check.SRGTD wrote:No, you don't have to have your car serviced by a franchised VW dealer for the warranty to remain valid.
