1.6 tdi sel looking to buy

Post by BriMac84 »

Hi am new here :) , I'm going to view a 1.6 tdi 6r polo sel this weekend with high millage 116k on a 60 plate, the car comes with fsh with belt and water pump done and recently new clutch and flywheel my main concern is the dpf? as it's seems to be a common fault ( as do all faults when you google stuff ) and can prove quite costly to fix, so that leaves me with a big Hmm what to i do? what to ask for? the car is priced at 4k within my budget, just needing a little help to make a decision as this is my first time buying a polo

thanks :)
Brian

I too am new here! I did have a 2013 High up! (from brand new with every extra except lowered suspension and faux-leather seats). But it got written-off by a hit-and-run driver (who denied the event but didn't realise I had a DashCam installed!!!). As I wanted an auto box next time, (I had a manual up! as the auto version is ASG and not DSG) I have just bought a 2015 plate 1.2 TSI 110 DSG Polo, with SEL trim (which I understand comprises a very low % of Polos sold)
I realise this is not quite the same as your spec (with manual/ diesel) but as a car it is lovely. The extras on the SEL are well worth it. I'd say that if you really want diesel, then you've got to take on the chin the risks the dual mass flywheel and DPF issues pose.

Yeah would consider the tsi but way to pricey for me as I only have a small budget, I currently drive a 1.6 tdci fiesta mk6 so I was looking at another diesel either the 1.6 tdi or the 2.0 tdi but was told keep away from the 2.0 if it's under a 2010 plate then that just left the 1.6 tdi, they are risks in every car aspecially my fiesta but it's been sweet the past 3 years with no issues for its age coming up to 10 years so it's time for a change and the polo ticks all the boxes

I don't know at that mileage how the dpf is but I can say I brought mine in march 60k on the clock and 12 plate It been a beautiful to drive but i did mod it on first week with HR lowing springs and a remap because it's underpowered with few people in it but now it's on 71k i do lot of miles town and motorways and the dpf been fine you can feel the regeneration because on idle it's Revs high over 1

High milage tends to be better for these engines as they like to be driven. If you intend on doing lots of short journeys e.g. Under 10k a year I recommend looking at the petrol engines.

I bought my 60 Plate SEL 1.6TDI in Jan 2016 with 36000 miles... It had only done short journeys so the DPF was completely clogged up and EGR needed replacing...

Appart from that it's a really lovely car that pulls really well and is very nippy!
