Newbie post, bear with

Post by Cpt Morgan »

Now then folk. Just bought a 2014 blueGT dsg for the wife and mistakenly started looking at accessories for it. Firstly, exhaust trims. I've been reading he forum trying to find a definitive answer but struggling. I've just spoken to the stealers for a price on 6R0 253 825 and coming back at £55... Each!!
So question is, do the yeti ones fit that are £25 ish on eBay? I know they're shorter but can't see this making much difference. Any input greatly appreciated.
Secondly, mudflaps. Do any fit the blueGT model. Dealer quoted 6r0 075 106 and 116 will fit but everywhere else I've read says they don't.
Thirdly, and finally for now, stereo. The car has the rns315 fitted with the touch free kit wired in aswell. Unfortunately the touch free kit needs a software update or something as it is asking for a recovery file. But what I want to know is, does the rns315 not have Bluetooth built in and so I shouldn't need the touch free kit for phone connectivity? At the minute when I press the phone hard key on the stereo it just mutes the radio, nothing else. What's my best option, buy the adaptor lead and download the update software, or remove completely and use the stereo's built in function?
Sorry for the essay, just hope it explains my questions.
Many thanks
James

The Yeti exhaust tips will fit, i've got them on mine. I got them from Amazon for £20.
They just push on and give them a little tap with a block of wood and a hammer and its job done. Takes less than 5 mins.

Sorry, not sure about the RNS315 and Bluetooth, but after a quick ‘Google’ it seems some have Bluetooth built in whereas others don’t. As you’ve got the separate dash-mounted touch phone kit, this suggests the version of the RNS315 unit fitted in your car doesn’t have Bluetooth.

Thanks for the replies. Yeti trims ordered. I will have to dig further on the stereo, I'm guessing there's no way of knowing whether it is Bluetooth or not without removing it. Taking it out doesn't look too hard from quick Google search, any tips on what I should look for. Does anyone else have the touch free kit, is it any good?

RE Bluetooth....for some time during the 6R model run VW UK started fitting their imported cars with their "accessory option" Bluetooth Touch system when they landed in the UK. Im not sure at the time the UK Polo was technically available from the factory with factory Bluetooth so it allowed them to state their cars came with Bluetooth until such time they could offer it from the factory.

This is basically a rebadged Bury CC9060 kit....actually a good kit but technically 3rd party and not factory fit. I had one fitted years ago to a Mk5 Golf company car I had and liked it but not without its issues.

You can actually get hold of the factory bluetooth module, microphone and wiring loom and install that instead, though there are a number of different versions and it would need coding. People with a bit of know-how and VCDS often get by sorting themselves but there are enthusiasts and professionals out there who would be able to help.

One of the best upgrades for these cars IMHO is the RNS315 headunit....this is a Nav unit but you can get a variant that comes with built in Bluetooth and DAB. Its then just a case of installing with the required antenna and microphone looms, coding then you have a fully featured nav, DAB and Bluetooth unit in the car....this is it
