Red Oil light flashing 2011 Polo 6R 1.6 TDI BM 90HP

Hello everyone
Just bought a Polo 6R 1.6 TDI used.
Problem: Red oil light comes on after revving the engine or after driving for a few meters.
Light does not come on if the engine is idle, no matter how long it works.

What was done: I checked the oil after I bought it and some "genius" mechanic put too much in. Sucked out about 1 liter of oil through the dipstick pipe !!! Now oil at about max level on dipstick.

Problem did not go away after I suck out the extra oil.

I suspect the Oil pressure switch. Any advice? Anyone else had same problem? What else could it be?

Well, it could be something completely different.
Maybe the filling amount was OK but something is blocked like an oil channel, a filter, something else. The red flashing light isn't red or flashing without a reason.

Based on the information you provide it's not possible to say. I would bring it into a garage and take no risks with this.
It's better not to drive the car with an oil problem, since a lack of oil can certainly damage some components badly like the pistons, cylinder walls etc.

It could be that the genius () forgot to remove or add the filter seal and now you have none or two filter seals installed.

It is not the first time it happens with the same symptoms.

I forgot to mention that the previous owner said that the "mechanic" who did the oil change, told him that it is a faulty oil pressure switch.
Given that he has poured 1 extra liter of oil into the engine , I have my doubts. Maybe he was right...

UPDATE: I did a VCDS check on Module 01 (engine) and there are no DTCs/errors. Tried several times, with only ignition on (oil lamp not flashing) and engine on (flashing oil lamp). No faults in either case. Actually, did a complete scan of all modules and there are no DTCs.

Is it possible that VCDS does not see a faulty oil pressure switch?
Wouldn't I get a DTC/fault in VCDS if the oil pressure were too high or too low in the engine?

Nevertheless, the car has already driven about 500 km without any "weird" engine problems. I hope that I did not screw the engine yet.
I bought a new oil pressure switch today and will post back when I change it (maybe later today). Will also check for "2 oil rings", though cannot imagine that being the issue. The oil cap/filter would just not fit, if there were 2 o-rings on the oil cap stick and top part...
Will update in any event.

Hi, I would like to ask a lubricating oil related question please.
The car is a Polo 1.2 TSI, has approximately 14,000 km and is just over three years old. The oil/filter changes were always done at the specified interval by the VW dealer. No excessive oil consumption and car has been flawless so far. The oil is good quality AGIP.
Some days ago and well before the engine oil is due to be changed, I changed the oil filter only. It was extremely tight to remove and eventually it came off and was replaced with a factory filter.
I put it on with smear of oil on the filter gasket to avoid removal problems next time round.
After starting the car and moving away, it ran ok for about 5 minutes and then the oil light came on and the beeper sounded every 5 minutes or so. Stopped the car and checked the oil level. It was full. Car was behaving absolutely normally except for the alarm and dashboard light.
I noticed the car sounds the alarm and flashes the oil can warning light only if the car is moving and not when idling and stationary.
There are no oil leaks and the engine sounds fine.

I am baffled as to how a simple filter change can cause all this, any suggestions and pointers would be appreciated.

Will change the filter first and see if that fixes the issue. Definitely easier than the Oil pressure switch

Update: it was the oil pressure switch!
Did not change oil filter - started with the hard part [emoji16]
Looked at the back of the engine, where it was located and noticed quite a bit of oil.
The procedure is not an easy one, but if you have the tools and some "can do" attitude, you can do it.
Take care disconnecting the vacuum line!

After new one installed, light off and no more problems [emoji16][emoji108]
