You can see the video of his car in action by clicking the pic below - for loads more old Top Gear reviews check the archive @ www.flixvault.net (its an uber cool site if you've got broadband!)

because we don't need an english version of it!

watch it once keeping half an eye on the subtitles to get an idea of the rather ludicrous plot, then forget about the dialogue and just concentrate on the action and the occasional bit of slapstick or eye candy... ;)

funny thing mr bastard... all those _big_ vauxhalls and one baby VW in amongst them? how so? :D

1,000,000 reasons - you want em all?

Main reason

Other halfs car really but she can't drive - bought her this to encourage her and to stop having to pay £25 to keep her personal plate on retention

Minor reason

But it makes a good runabout and replaced the old MKII 1.3 Coupe S which I actually liked a lot.

Tree hugging reason

Saves me a fortune on fuel v the others and means I don't feel so guilty when I go out in the LC or Monza on a track day and do a tank of fuel (75 L of optimax)

But why a VW - Honest TRUTH

I wouldn't be seen dead in a CORSA - horrible s**t ugly pieces of rubbish that have as much driver appeal as a 1984 nissan micra and no other redeeming features

Many Thanks so far, and no worries bout the highjacks! Makes a more interestin read.

Nice info on the Corsa there m8!

I dont like em... cuz...

Top 10 Cars in UK

Top 5 are ALL Ford
6-10 are ALL Vauxhall

Also why MOD something that is also commonly moddified? I say the purpose to modifiy is to be unique and stand out...

How the bloody hell do you stand out where probably 1 in 10 Saxos have Lexus Lights?

I rest my case...

Final Note: In my life I have seen on the road with my own eyes only 3 Polos with lexus lights...

Mine, a Red one in a car park (no other MODs) and a yellow one that drives around broadmead EVERY Saturday (must spend bout £40 on petrol every saturday, surly he cud go work or sumthin :? )

Yeah hurts as a real V**xhall fan to slate the cars but I've driven a few and they are utterly horrid

Drove from Norfolk to Manchester and back yesterday (460 miles) to pick up another engine for the Polo and after 10 hrs in the car still felt relaxed and could have driven for another 5 hrs easy - I expect to feel like that in a Senator or my Lotus but in a 1.4 Polo - that's pretty impressive for a little car to have big car ride comfort and distance ability

Spent the day Polo spotting with the better half as we went - saw 11 MKIV's in total and no a single one was modded in any way - 10 had steels on and 1 had alloys but as it was a 16V I expected it to have and they were OE equipment ones - one did have a hell of a roof box on it and it was white too

yeah but those stock mk4 wheels are nice aren't they! :D

=threadjack=

as it 'appens BC, how do you rate the Astra (mk2? mk3??? i dont know which it is sorry, possibly both -- early to mid 90s one) ???

i'm being leant on really hard to ditch the "nail" (grr) and am casting about for options...
One of them sounds like a pretty good bet - a five door with a 1.4 (any version - HiTorq or 16v, whatever) in a nice colour will do nicely. Comfortable (??), economical (good engines and gear ratios higher than the sun), cheap to buy/insure/maintain, safe, reliable, and probably handle ok.. except last time i tried one the steering was like lead.
And the modding potential can only be described as: Chav or Bust. I can't think of any way to make it look smart/subtle in any reasonable way like I might the polo...

Or a fiesta about the same age as the polo - uncle's reccommendation and he seems to know his stuff. The surviving ones are tough enough to last, parts and service are like bags of crisps in terms of availability and price, dirt cheap to buy/insure/fuel (upto 60mpg), not too bad on the handling side (safety??) and go about as quick as the VW... though his view is a little warped after roadtesting my 1050 right after jumping out of a 2-litre Focus... he reccomended a 950cc!! ouch...
(I don't like the seats in them, but I must admit i've always liked the clockwork-toy noise of the engines)

or a daewoo nexia (just a korean-assembled astra, but with a late 80s mistubishi 1.5 litre Mpi engine - and LOTS of toys... ABS, aircon, PAS, remote central locking, the works... for same price as a Fox-level Astra Merit with cheaper insurance, hmm)
Or another polo, but properly 'sorted' and at least a 1.2/1.3, mk2 thru mk4 (what about a 1.4 5 door eh?!) ... or a golf?
OR a G-plate Audi 80 E for all of £500.... even older than the polo but still looks the dogs in glossy jet black! Just wondering if it's too big (is it closer to a Jetta/Vento/Bora, or a Passat?)... and too thirsty at 1.8 litre, even if it might potentially be chucking out 112bhp for nowhere near as much insurance or outlay as a G40? Oh, and you could be sure i'd bling it to the max!

yeah i know i know............. but even the polo tends to feel kind of caverous with just me in it, all those lone driver trips in one of them would make me feel like i was piloting a 747..... whereas an astra feels like a thick rug thrown around you on a cold night (must be the seats) :D

still...... would be nice... get it on the sly (i could happily walk to where the dealer is in under an hour) and wouldn't let the folks see the numberplate straight away :D

mum goes off to play a round of golf or something, i go for a walk. she comes back to find a "visitor" outside....

"Whose is that car parked on the road outside our house?"

...um... it's mine...

"Wha?"

I bought it while you were out..
"you bought a 5 door saloon???? in black?! and without telling me??"

..it was cheap, you could at least give it a look before freaking out..

(quickly followed by...)
"it's an AUDI??"

and then inevitably
"IT'S A G-REG?!?!"

...yeah ok, now you can freak out... but look on the bright side... it's cheap!

Even though *I* know the thing may as well be built out of breezeblocks and welsh slate held together with eight tons of araldite for the problems that plate will cause  (excepting the "motor top mounts"?!)
(and, like the polo squareback, i've always liked the look of the 80)

All the same, five hundred quid on a motor of initially unknown quantity is still five hundred quid, with or without any warranty they may offer. As is an extra 200 or more on the insurance, compared to what i could currently sell / partex the polo for without shining it back up to a proper standard.... :(
