hey guys, not sure if ive spoken to you b4.
I had kinda the same thing, i took my GTI back to have its pedal box replaced, and after i drove it away my gearbox was completly fcuked.
Didnt like first gear at all, or reverse for that matter.
The thing is the pedal box 'problem' causes the pressure plate on your clutch do go a bit naff. I ended up buying a new clutch and had it fited by a friend.
i paid with labour £350, where as VW will demand £560, so i wouldnt recommend them doing it !
I feel your pain though mate, i nearly knocked the manager out at my local VW dealers when they said they wernt prepared to take money off for the clutch, seeing as its the pedal box that BLATANTLY caused the problem.
Good luck with yours mate !

check out
...the clutch depression (not your own
). The further the pedal comes up, the more it will depress under foot and engage to allow you to change gear easier. I've adjusted mine right up (see previous thread of mine).
And, make sure the alignment of the gears and gear stick is okay... apparently this is a known issue and needs VW to 'tweek' a few bolts underneath to line everything up again...(see previous other thread)
Wot I don't get though it why you should now have problems since the pedal box fitting... this has nothing to do with the gears or gearbox?!?!
