6R, Wheels, tyres, springs and spacers

Post by polostu »

Hi guys,

I am currently driving the 6R GTI with stock wheels on Eibach lowering springs (25/30). Nice and comfy ride for the most part. but the rear is too high and feel if I am getting aftermarket wheels then it would look even better if the car was that bit lower over all.

I am looking to get new XXR 227s (17s), H&R springs (25/40) ans spacers to finish off the look.

I am relatively new to the modifying scene and I am looking to see if anyone can answer a few questions for me.

XXR 227 Wheels
Are there different offsets (widths) etc for the wheels that I am looking for?
I am looking to fit the lightest silver ones which I have seen a few of on here but when I look on the XXR website then only have super stretch for the 17 size and they seem WAY more concaved than the pics I have seen of some polos with them. The other one they have is the forged but they only come in 18 minimum.
Can anyone shed some light as to where you can find 17s that are the light silver and not crazy concaved?

H&R 25/40 Springs
I have read many posts regarding the H&R springs and realise they seem to be a bit more harsh than say my Eibach. I know that they will fit the arch in the rear much better but does anyone know if they will sit lower in the front than the current Eibach 25 drop?

Spacers
I have zero knowledge on spacers, I know their purpose but can anyone tell me what the best brand/thickness I would be best to go with the combination I have described? I just want a little more flush with the car but by no means do I want any rub AT ALL when going over daily potholes, bumps etc.

Lastly, does anyone know of somewhere in Scotland that could do all of this work under one roof to give me peace of mind?

Thanks
Stuart

Ah. Never realised. Any ideas of an equivalent 25/40 drop for the gti?
