You seem to Know a thing or two about the new Polo & 7.5 golf. Can you tell me please, on the VW current satnav, does it warn of fixed location speed cameras? not that I need those warnings , of course. I never speed, but it is useful to know where they are as they are located In accident black spots!

Sorry Mike, that’s one I can’t help you with 🙁. My car has the previous genreration Composition Media infotainment unit (MIB2), and it doesn’t have sat nav.

Perhaps there’s someone on the forum with a mk7.5 Golf or a new Polo with sat nav who can provide the answer to your question.

My Mk7 Golf Match Edition don't show speed cameras think that's an added package, it shows local permanent speed limits though....

I know when I do eventually get mine I'll be keeping it in my garage and storing the key in a faraday pouch.
Just been hearing on the radio that many manufacturers knew of the security flaws for the keyless entry cars. In addition it said that VW obtained a high court injunction stopping details of their sytems vulnerabilities and what they knew, and carried on regardless. The companies get so large and powerful the arrogance can be staggering.

The pros and cons of keyless entry have been discussed on quite a few VW forums. Interestingly (and surprisingly) over on the VWROC forum, pretty much all instances of theft of Golf R’s reported by forum members seem to have been cars without keyless entry fitted, where the owner’s home has been broken into and the keys stolen.

One of the good things about the new Polo is that even though it’s ‘grown’ in size compared to the previous Polo, it’s still small enough to fit most garages, if you’re lucky enough to have a garage. Being able to get my car in my garage is one of the factors that influence my decision of which car I buy - I’ve got friends who find this amusing, but I take the view ‘out of sight removes temptation’ of the passing opportunist thief. I also think it’s a smart move to take precautions to block the signal from the key fob if you’ve got keyless entry and keeping the key in a Faraday pouch. Don’t forget the spare key too, so you’ll need two Faraday pouches.

Also, IMO GAP insurance (Vehicle Replacement basis of cover, not Back to Invoice) is a worthwhile purchase. If you’ve got GAP insurance and the worst does happen and your car is stolen and not recovered, or it’s damaged and written off, the GAP insurance will pay the difference between what the car is worth and what it would cost to replace it with a brand new one of the same type and spec. GAP insurance is not expensive, provided you don’t buy it from VW, when it is expensive; VW apply a large commission mark-up to the net prices required by the insurer they use for their GAP insurance product. Lots of much cheaper specialist GAP insurers out there.

Just a quick/curious question:- has any of this got anything to do with OFCOM ruling and what is VW's equivalent of "Audi Phone Box" Ie the car having the ability to use a built in aerial signal amplifier to boost mobile phone signals?

This will be a UK only issue if it is so no other sales territories will affected.

Dealer has informed me today that IF I were to order a GTI+ today it would be a 36 week lead time. For a base Polo it's a 25 week lead time.
I initially ordered my GTI+ in week 12, with a lead time of 20 weeks giving me an August delivery date, but my dealer seems to think it will probably be around 24 weeks. But until I have a build week confirmed they were still very vague and non-comittal

Trying not to take over the forum (really) but a new Polo will easily fit in a garage. Probably. The standard single garage door is 2metres, or 2000mm, wide and my council / local authority garage isn't much wider once inside my Golf fits. Snugly I admit and you gotta fold mirrors & be careful, but it does fit though no stored bicycles, washing machines, etc for me. Though I live in a resonably safe area, having a garage is mandatory for me personally....

GTI+ was a great deal at the time, not going to be repeated for a while. From memory it was about 2.5k cheaper than the GTI with all the added extras. The GTI was not for me, I went for the SEL with a longish extras list, did the deal through car wow and saved quite a bit.
