VW UK's offical GT pictures

Post by dxg »

Volkswagen UK have released a couple of exterior shots of the UK-spec GT. Might be of interest:

From squinting really hard at the full-sized originals and playing about with the brightness, the exhaust appears to be dual-exit angled downwards, but no polished tips or anything.

All Sport Diesels have them exhausts including the 25th Anniversary 150bhp GTTDi Golfs :(

Frankly I dont like it! It may as well be the lowest Spec Polo with a GT badge on :?

What's with all the unpainted plastic?

OK, the fabia has side rubbing strips and door handles left unpainted, but the side strips peel off and the doorhandles aren't a biggie to paint...

But the front and rear bumber mouldings, damn.

Thats more like it - I think even the Fabia looks sportier than the polo.

On the plus side, this could mean something even more special is planned for a GTi (please...) and the if the GT engine matches its VAG brethen you could remove the badges and have yourself a very good 'street sleeper' to scare saxo's with :)

I'd imagine the 6-speed gearbox would made a big difference too.

Also has the GT trim, which doesn't look as good as the sport red/grey IMO.

They could have at least added the body kit as standard.

I wanted to get a GT, but then seeing the final spec and price I went for a CTR! :P

too little too late for the GT. Especially with the face lift coming next year??

The 130 Polo is a bit too late on the diesel scene because Seat and Skoda already have the diesel crown. The 130 tdi is fast, it accelerates like The Road Runner buy VW could have added that little bit extra. After having driven that car posted by KarlM 8) , I wouldnt want to get any other diesel knowing full well they will never put that engine in the polo in my lifetime.
The 160 Cupra is a beast of a thing that accelerates considerably faster than the 130 and continues and picks up realy well at high speeds. However to get the most out of the performance and give the petrol heads a lesson, you have to rag it hard bringing your fuel consumption to an average of 33mpg. the mpg only goes down that much after 2 Type Rs, a Golf GTi, a VTS and a 180ps TT is buried in the distance.
I dont care what anybody says my next car is going to be a diesel for many reasons. people moan about the noise... that also bugs me when stationary at the traffic lights but when you're accelerating you dont hear it and as diesel gets more and more popular the car companies can find better ways to make them less noisy. for example the 330 D is well quiet, all you can hear is the turbo hiss so to me that shows the car companies know how to refine their engines but chose not to unless you pay them more. As usual.

I'll be looking at diesel power in a few years time too if the price is right - I was left trailing in the tyre marks of a Leon Cupra R TDI yesterday on the A5 - didn't stand a chance, I think he'd forgotten his sandwiches and was on a half-hour lunchbreak

It was the first time I felt like the Polo didn't have enough power... then I was watching the Fast and the Furious last night and now I want NOS...

As for the Polo GT - I'll wait and see what happens with the next-gen Polo of 2005 (the 9n2? lol), as there is definitely going to be a GTi with the option of petrol or diesel - rumours are that the petrol will be a 150bhp turbo, or a detuned 2.0 FSI turbo, and the diesel may well be the 2.0 140bhp engine - assuming of course that these options can be wedged into a Polo engine bay!!

... 140bhp diesel 9n2 Polo GTi... thats the stuff
