Yes I gave the order number to the VW help person. She said she thought the factory was now closed but had to ring another department to check ,who were busy. Hopefully she will have definite information re the closure as she promised to ring back.
The salesman I ordered the car from is on holiday for a week......sensible chap as he may have got some grief from me.
Reasonably relaxed about it now, either a chance of it arriving reasonably soon or around October , luckily we can manage with our UP until then without complication . Will see the sales manager either tomorrow or Wednesday when the UP goes for its MOT but I bet he knows less than we do!

Update!
Just had a call from VW saying that the factory is not closed yet but after week 24 which contradicts what they told me before. So , back to plan A and hope that they can find enough car bits next Monday to build my car and then I can start chasing delivery ships once it is on its way.

I'm presuming now we're on BW20, going into BW 21, some Polo GTIs have already been built? Anyone here able to confirm theirs has been built according to the tracker?
I'd find it hard to believe that the Polo GTI with 6 speed DSG box is having bother meeting WLTP when the heavier standard Golf GTI apparently is ok, with 30 more horses from the same engine and same 6 speed box (the GTI PP 245ps has the new 7 speed box). Don't know why Polo never got 7 speed from the get-go for better economy and emissions as the 7 speed box with its tall 7th gear has really upped motorway speeds fuel economy on the Golf R and GTI PP compared to the old 6 speed DSG (pre-facelift) and manual box.
Actually, I don't think the engine spec is that identical to the standard Golf GTi, as the photos I have seen, so far, show the Polo Gti with a MAF sensor on the inlet pipe, which the GTi Golf, and Octavia VRS do not have. I read , on a review somewhere, that the Polo engine is possibly from an earlier incarnation of the EA888, but I have no data to verify that. VW seem to be very cagey about things related to WLTP. I suppose we have all signed letters from our dealerships in that regard.
I think the 6 speed DSG is cheaper, so that is why the Polo and non performance Golf GTis have that. I wonder if they might fit the 7 speed after all, if WLTP results aren't as desired? Certainly wouldn't mind the Golf GTi engine.
I am doing some serious thinking about whether to opt for a Golf GTi instead, but significantly more expensive, plus its to be updated next year, and I really like the design of the Polo. I fall in the older category of owner as well, so although the Fiesta ST may be a superbly entertaining drive, it just doesn't have the space,interior quality or comfort for me.

This ^^ again. Plus as more cars become available, after a while they often feature as standard options that were from the previous model above. VWs 'just in time' production is more like 'just a bit late', I get it they don't want cars piled up to the sky in dealerships but they do need to pull their fingers out somewhat. I'm in no rush whatsoever to do anything and so am hanging fire for now but kudos on folk still hanging in there, I'm sure it will be worth it in the (still really too long to wait) end....monkeyhanger wrote: Mon May 21, 2018 8:30 am VW always do this with performance model launches - in the first year of launch they are scarce, and then they become ten a penny when VW loosen up on the allocations.

Not sure if the gearbox is the same but my friend has an Audi A6 with the seven speed gearbox. My understanding is that the seven speed is wet clutch gearbox and that there were some problems with it. The 6 speed DSG is a dry clutch but to be honest the workings of these type of auto boxes is like witchcraft to me so maybe there are sub variations of each type as well.
Re options to buy if mine does not arrive the new RS Ford Focus could be a possibility but I bet it will be more expensive and again boy racer ish.
I think the driving experience would be similar to my friends previous classic Ford Mustang ( slightly) . He said when he first got it he loved the sound of the throbbing V8 engine,especiall in tunnels, but after a few weeks found it to be tiring. I guess it may be the same with the "dartiness" of the RS cars , great to start with but could end up being tiring and annoying, especially at my age!!

The six speed is the wet clutch on the Polo. I know that on the small capacity engines (1.2TSi) they the 7 speed DSG is a dry clutch. This may vary from model to model due to the differences in performance.
I believe that the 6 speed wet clutch DSG in the Polo is to cope with the extra torque

I think the 6 speed DSG box in the Polo GTi is the DQ250 wet clutch box, similar to the one I have in my Superb. The wet clutch boxes seem to handle higher torque figures than the dry clutch boxes, as far as i am aware.
I am sure the Focus RS is a hoot to drive, but I would be wary of the engine problems that have been reported, plus its probably a bit too full on for me.

I haven't heard anything via VW Intranet about the GTI failing WLTP test but I assume that Uitenhage and Mexico plant (Tiguan Allspace) shutting down is to do with maintenance as both factories used to produce other models that are no longer are available i.e Beetle, Beetle Cab and Jetta so maybe just sorting out the lines to streamline build process down to 1 week for full production rather than the current build time of 2 weeks on Polo. I think we may see cars locking into factory a lot quicker after it re-opens. My car is nearly at Emden 3-4 more days! - Cannot wait to see it!

Then the new wet clutch 7 spèed came in. Seems to be the box of choice for reining in the CO2. Facelift R got it to sneak into the lower band of purchase tax for emissions (£205?). Prefacelift R was around 3100rpm at 80 in 6th both DSG and manual, facelift is around 2600rpm in 7th at 80, I believe. My old MK7 GTD (manual) ran 2200rpm in 6th.
