God Awful Wizzing Noises Part 2

Just a quick note for all those that read my last post on this rather tiresome subject. Finally, the awful 'whiiiizzzzzzzz' noise when I start the thing no longer occurs! I ended up having to get a new starter motor for the thing. Â£117.50 from VW main dealer, and Â£30 to get it fitted by a mate of mine who used to be a mechanic.

Now I have a lovely purr as it fires, and no more embarrassing moments in the local garage as everybody whips their heads round staring at me while I slowly cower behind the steering wheel. So, I am one happy chappy!

That's an awful expensive bit of face-saving! Â£150 odd to get rid of a whizz

Must sound nice though....

I suppose, but it was impossible to sell, or part ex for a different one as no-one would take it on. It does sound sweet though! Well worth it, besides I had the money.

(ok, so how much for a recon starter from halfords, or a scrap one that doesn't whizz.... asumming it can be mounted by a n00b)

Well I rang around lots of places, and the best deal I found was Â£94 plus VAT for a recon starter. I got a new VW one for Â£100 + VAT. I couldn't really argue!!

Why was I scaring you? Because I was thinking of selling the Polo? Wouldn't be a bad thing as it's only an 8v with Auto box.

Oh I See! Whoever came to look at it, then heard the noise was like "Ok, I'll let you know," and never heard from them again. It's difficult because it is an auto, although the gear box is very good, and a very smooth change. Oh well, I shall have to keep it and mod it up at some point!

NOS....

oodlebags of torque (good for that high auto 1st gear), and you dont have to worry about nuking the clutch...

You are NOS obsessed!!! Although, I must admit that it would be very interesting to see what would happen! I was thinking about it on my way to work this morning, poodling along at about 55 - 60 to try and save fuel. (Although I have managed to get 200 miles on half a tank which isn't bad I think!!)

It would be nice to smoke away from lights with a little NOS help.

What is it you do for a living mate, you certainly know a lot of stuff from reading some of your other posts.

I'll 2nd the fact it's legal to use on the road - not sure if it's that clever to do so but legality doesn't come into it.......

nothing to do with the motor trade, but ive seen enough debate about it, and features online/in magazines/on the telly featuring folks such as the wizards of NOS suggest its fully legal. might not used to have been but is now.
even the wizards themselves back it for road use, and you think the bbc would risk taking ppl pushing illegal things into road cars to do a guest feature on top gear?
