Rattling Rear view mirror?

Well, it had to happen one day! My first rattle in the FSi

Thankfully, its not an internal dash rattle but the rear view mirror (over certain road surfaces). Has anyone else had this problem before?

Also, while its being done. I'm thinking of getting a auto dimming version. Did anyone ever find out if it was possible to retrofit? (woter234, I think you were looking into this one, any luck?)

Got that one too -- since it didn't require the dismantling of my dash, it was one that I brought up with my dealer. They lubed it, and although the rattles are much reduced, they still exist.

Also, can anyone tell me if the self-dimming rear-view mirror as seen in my 'rents Bora is a simple swap job? Seems to be a case of whipping out the old one and sticking the new one in place...

If you have rain-sensing wipers now, it'd make life a lot easier. There's only three wires to hook up, and if you have the said option the wires should already be there. The mirror itself is *very* expensive by the way. Expect to pay around the 100 pounds mark @ the dealer.

I reckon in the 9n you'd probably be looking at a similar retro-fit job - £100 approx for the mirror plus labour unless of course you already have the mirror from a scrapped donor which sadly I have not

Yep I had that, the stealer replaced the mirror for me with a modified one.

HOw you getting on with your 50mm springs nelson? what make are they and how do they affect the ride (ie harshness)?

Well, phoned up the dealer today. They're gonna lube it up before they attempt to replace it. tbh I can't see the point of that as the rattle seems inside the base rather than at the adjustment part. Oh well

I still love the car, but the constant attempts/phone calls to even get it booked in are beginning to wear me down. Its getting to the point that i'm thinking of selling it and buying a Corrado early. I'll loose about 15mpg, it'll cost more to insure but at least the ownership experience will be 10X better. At least I can order/fit parts at my own leisure and repair what I know is wrong with it rather than being told whats 'probably' wrong with it (even when I usually know whats wrong with it anyway! )

jrw: Springs are just like standard really. Only difference I notice is they can make the suspension a bit 'unsettled' over certain bumps but I can live with that only cost me £80 from eBay Germany as well

Do you know what make they are?

Did you get VW to fit them with regards to warranty?

They are Eibach Sportlines (45-50mil).

I got an Audi technician from work to fit it for less than an hours labour from a local dealer. If VW can't even make the suspension without making it creak, I'm not trusting a dealer to tamper with mine!

Are U sure,the suspension makes the creaking? I think it's something else. My car creaks only when i'm slowing down using the motor...
