Plans for my Blue GT
Hello, This is my first post on here and im looking for some ideas of what i can do to my Blue GT,
first of all im planning on debadging the back removing the "POLO" and "bluemotion" lettering and keeping the "GT",
also looking at getting a cold air intake kit (im no car guru so some suggestions of the best priced intake kits would be greatly appreciated)
some time towards the end of the year i am also looking at getting an aftermarket cat back exhaust system to make the sound of the car a little
deeper and so it growls more maybe with a few pops and bangs. after this is done ill be planning on getting an ECU remap and then looking for
other potential modifications. like i said im not clued up a whole lot on my cars but id like to get more out of my Blue GT without bottle necking
the 1.4 engine.
ill be sure to keep this updated with pictures as the work gets done!
Thanks.

Re: Plans for my Blue GT
Cold air is good but most of intake kits draw hot air from under the bonnet. VW OEM air filter systems are very good and are matched to engine characteristics, I’ve yet to encounter an ‘intake kit’ that improves the BGTs breathing,a lot of them introduce flat spots and other undesirable characteristics.
An intake kit will make the engine louder which is great if you want to draw attention to yourself.
Should you decide to modify the intake, and some of the kits do look good (but only when the bonnet is open) make sure you add ducting so the filter feeds from outside the engine compartment that will give you the best results although in reality, not kit suppliers figures, you will probably produce less power than you would had you not changed the system at all.
If you carry out extensive modifications to greatly increase power then a bespoke system may be required but my advice, admittedly that of a grumpy old man would be to spend your money elsewhere.
Having said all that I’ve always believed that when it comes to customising and modifying cars bite the bullet and do what makes you happy even if, engineeringwise it might not make sense.
Enjoy your car and have fun getting it how you want it, been there done that and only a few regrets.

Re: Plans for my Blue GT
I’m currently looking into making up an intake for my bgt I have a large ram air filter which is a tad over sized to be fair, crammed into my engine bay on the side of my air filter housing and it’s seriously loud! Has anyone had there’s remapped? I’m heading down jbs way in a few months I’ve heard they’re the best to go to?

I’ve spoken to JBS today and they reckon from the BGT they can get between 170-180hp and it will cost £350

Be sure to inform your insurer of any modifications you make to your car - not doing so could invalidate your insurance. Some insurers are more mod-friendly than others, so depending on your insurer’s approach to modifications, they may charge charge you an increased premium.

No one cares about insurance companies we get ripped off left right a Centre because of those idiots. If people want to tell insurance about the mods then they will if they don’t then they don’t. I never told my company anything when I was a kid and I never had any issues. Drive like a idiot expect to be involved in a accident.
I don’t like people mentioning insurance companies because half the time they don’t even know what a REMAP is or a spoiler or anything, useless! If your going to crash a car make sure it’s a write off
I spoke to REVO £350 for a stage 1 190bhp are the gains...they do no other mods for the GT, however the MILLTEK cat back will fit, there’s not intake systems or inter coolers and what not available for these GT, the mods for these polos are based on the GTI models only.
I will personally be doing the exhaust and possible the pedal box and thats it. My Mrs isn’t interested in a remap plus the gearboxes aren’t as strong as the 2.0l boxes, I’m not to sure why.

Where was the revo remap from at £350 because that seems really cheap. I’ve asked a few dealers up here and it’s £399+VAT

Yes, insurance companies aren’t most peoples friends and they’re disliked by most, but unfortunately, they are a necessary evil. The large direct insurers aren’t the best companies to insure with if you have a modified vehicle or intend to make modifications, as they’re unlikely to have the level of the technical knowledge or know-how to understand the modifications a person had made or wants to make. However, there are insurance brokers who specialise in arranging cover on modified vehicles and those specialist brokers will promote themselves as having the necessary technical knowledge of modified cars.
Anyone who runs the risk of not declaring modifications to their car needs to consider the consequences of their actions. They might need to make a claim for something other than a crash - if their car is stolen and damaged in the process and then recovered and they need to claim for the damage. Depending on the extent of the damage (write off or not), their insurer may inspect the car as part of the claims process. If the car’s modified, then depending on what the modifications are, the insurer’s claims inspection engineer may spot them during the inspection. If the modifications haven’t been declared, then it’s highly likely this’ll influence the outcome of the claim.
Then there’s the Insurance Fraud Database, which is a market-wide database. Where insurers discover instances of insurance fraud, they can add details of that person committing the fraud to the fraud database, which can be accessed by other insurers. Not declaring vehicle modifications is a type of insurance fraud, which is a criminal offence. For anyone whose details have been added to the database, it’s likely to affect their ability to get insurance in the future, or the premium they’re charged.
Is it worth taking the risk? - Insurer not paying out on a claim, difficulties in getting insurance cover in future and the possibility of a criminal record? You decide.
No more fatherly advice from me in this thread, I promise! Oh, and before you ask, no, I don’t work in the insurance industry, but I know people who do.

I’m in Sussex, maybe it’s £350 plus VAT then and he didn’t tell me that lol. Prices wouldn’t varey across the board depending where you live I shouldn’t imagine. I’d 100% go with REVO tho mate.PoloBlueGT wrote: ↑Fri Jul 27, 2018 10:19 pm Where was the revo remap from at £350 because that seems really cheap. I’ve asked a few dealers up here and it’s £399+VAT

You’re very welcome . There are more important things in life to worry about than a person’s reaction to comments posted in a discussion thread on a forum.
