1.2 TSI Polo - Constantly having to top oil up
I check my oil once a month, but I'm constantly having to top it up. Over the space of a a few months its been like this:
April 2018 - 1/4 way up dipstick line - Not topped up
May 2018 - Looked lower so toped up to half way
June 2018 - Had gone down a little - Not topped up
July 2018 - 1/4 way up dipstick line - Not topped up
August 2018 - Nearly at bottom of dipstick line so toped up to half way
Alright I'm not CONSTANTLY topping up the oil but Ive never had a car that eats this much oil.
Theres no oil leak anywhere, I hardly do any miles in it (Maybe 400 miles a month), the oil was changed on the last service not too long ago.
Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance.

Allright, so no (apparent) oil leaks but losing oil nonetheless. It might be that your engine is leaking oil internally.
- PCV broken/blocked
- Oil seal rings on the pistons broken
- Head gasket
Do you think you'll manage to check for these?

Thanks for the info. Hmm, I doubt it I'll be able to check all those myself but I'll certainly have a go at what I can do myself.
Wheres it actually going internally then do you think and whys it not leaking out?

internal leakage will probably go into the induction tract or the cylinder, then the oil get burnt and leaves through the exhaust.

I had the same problem and this is what I suspect it is.
Then the timing chain snapped!

Is this not the kind of thing that would be picked up on a service or oil change?
To be honest its always kind of been like this, I'm just a bit of a worrier these days![Smile :)](./images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)

How much and how often did you notice you were having to top up if you remember?kishan313 wrote: ↑Thu Aug 23, 2018 4:55 pmiichel wrote:internal leakage will probably go into the induction tract or the cylinder, then the oil get burnt and leaves through the exhaust.

coffee_king, I am assuming that your car is an early version and so a 6R model and it has an engine that has a chain driven cam shaft.
Maybe you could confirm the age and engine model type, it will be listed on your V5 thing or whatever it is currently called as well as on the timing "drive" cover on the engine (a paper label).

It's a 2010 model, mr RUM4MO, so it's a CBZ engine

Ah, okay!
I am not sure that oil burning/using is an issue with these cars, or is it?
Edit:- anything of interest in this link:--- https://1200cctsiengine.wordpress.com/o ... s-defects/

When I mean top up, I mean it was below the marker and needed to proper top upkishan313 wrote:I can’t remember exactly but at least every 2-3 month, I drove it 20 miles daily
