It certainly is on uk gtis, but maybe not uk non gtis. There is no room under the bonnet/ hood for a battery.JayT wrote: Thu Aug 23, 2018 1:24 pm Interesting.
I thought the battery is in trunk (boot) for all Polo.

Re: GTI and GTI plus owners experiences
Hi everyone. Greetings from Denmark. I'm new to the forum. I just bought a new Polo GTI in black and I'm still waiting for a delivery date.
I got a question on regarding the burn in.
What would you say is the best way to burn in the Polo GTI?
I've been lurking on the forum for a while and people says that the car changes at 600 miles / 1000 km. At the age of 24 I want to make sure that I don't mess it up!
I'm interested in how the car changes? If anyone has some info about it, I would be delighted.
I've been test driving the car at my local dealer a few times now. I must say that I love this little hatch!

Re: GTI and GTI plus owners experiences
Coldest morning for a long time on my commute ( certainly the coldest since the Polo GTI+ arrived: 11C), and the Bridgestone Turanzas were easily provoked into tramping in a way i've not yet seen on this car. These tyres seem a lot harder wil less traction at 11C than they do at 16C.
Should crack the magic 620 miles early next week (if I don't take the car to York) to see how much the car opens up.

Re: GTI and GTI plus owners experiences
At about 1600 miles now in the GTI+, all going well so far!
Have started stretching its legs more and more and have noticed that even in manual mode it'll change up well before the redline, even before the part shaded redline. In my old golf R it would go well into the part shaded redline before changing up. No big deal as i'm not exactly keen to redline it just seems a little strange! Maybe the ECU is still pegging it back a bit until it hits a certain mileage, or maybe thats just how its designed.
Overall finding the car very easy to live with and returning reasonable MPG, over the first 1600 miles the car has averaged 39MPG which is pretty good on a tight new engine.
Handling wise its better than my old 6R was (although that was only an r-line) and is very composed in the corners. I'm on 17" parkers (wish they had a better offset at the rear) with Michelins and it puts the power down well, have had some wheel spin moments out of junction etc but thats to be expected in an open-diff FWD car, no avoiding it really. Once you get going the traction is good.
No complains about the brakes but not given them a prolonged hammering, so can't comment on how well they cope with repeated heavy use yet.
Overall i'm very happy with the car. My only gripe is I wish they had better looking wheel options from factory. 18's on a Polo just seems crazy to me (and I don't like the Brescia design) so saved some money and went with the parkers. Tempted to add some spaces so the wheels fill the arches a little bit better, the front is not too bad but the rear offset on the Parker's is awful, sit in the arches too far for my liking. If only the 18" Pretoria's would fit....

Well, well, once again I am sitting on the roadside waiting for breakdown assistance! 457 miles on the clock and 3rd time it had broken down. I think I have a dog and vw can put it where the sun don't shine.
Just accelerating away from standstill and suddenly jumps out of gear, total loss of power, 5 warning lights on, fuel gauge says zero although I have half a tank. I turned off now it won't turn on again. I wonder what my grounds are for rejecting the car?

Re: GTI and GTI plus owners experiences
Have you gone to CAB or even contacted trading standards. First off tell them (the dealer) what you intend to do and see what they intend to do about your problems, and see what they say? Also give it in writing. Give them a chance to come back on you intensions, give them a limited time for a reply.
Then, if they don't come back with a reply, carry out the deed What ever you do, don't say you've taken your grievance to either of the two I've mentioned and you haven't. I saw a thing like this on "Judge Rinder", (OK many of you might scoff), but the woman did this, said she did when she didn't and lost her case. and don't publish inflammatory remarks against the dealer that isn't true.
Either that or just drive your car and park it close up to the entrance, with a placard in bold writing explaining the faults inside the car and lock it up, even fit a wheel clamp. See what they say then.

Sorry to hear that your car isn’t working again! Re: GTI and GTI plus owners experiences
We went to York today (4 of us), took the Polo GTI, left the Golf R at home, first longish journey done (North Shields to York, 98 miles if you go around York with a brief spell on the A1 after the A19, 88 miles if you stay on the A19 all the way to York, through some single carriageway on the 15 mile approach to York, varying from National Speed Limit to 30mph. As usual, the car was in individual mode, with everything in Sport mode except engine noise (Eco) and suspension (Normal). No need for aircon there or back.
So on the drive down, we went the A1 way because the kids like the occasional Beefeater cooked breakfast, and it was on the other side of York, making sense to go around.
Trying hard to stick to 75mph , but on occasion, needed to get up to 80 to get past a few vehicles that had a habit of doing 65mph until you wanted to be past them. Although I have the full ACC on the Golf also, I rarely use it. I set it for the Polo for about half the journey - it works well enough (seemingly a little better than the first generation system on the Golf - seeing as it acknowledges cars on the adjacent lane detected who may be undertaking/overtaking you), but I turned it off - I felt so disconnected to the car with nothing to do but steer (it's amazing how much you can feel through the throttle pedal to feel what the car is doing). So on the way there, the Polo averaged 42.8mpg, with an average speed over the journey of 60mph - mainly down to the 6 miles between home and the southern side of the Tyne tunnel.
We took the short way home, sticking to the A19 all the way, with the varied first 15 miles out. We encountered a couple of miles of coarse (but flat) road surface where an annoying buzzy rattle developed which at first seemed that it was coming from the front passenger window. I remembered someone here mention rattly dash/door inserts and got the missus to press on the pointy back end of the door opener insert on the passenger door - and the rattle stopped, let it go - buzz, press it, buzz goes (about 6 times, definitely the insert). To be fair, although flat. the coarse surface just outside York is the worst I have encountered to date and I suspect the fault would be hard to replicate locally if I took the car to the dealers. On the way home, I had to stick to 30/50/60mph on the single carriageway, but as soon as I was on the proper dual carriageway, I was maintaining 80mph in the most part, creeping up a few mph at times. mpg for the journey home was 43.3mpg, with an average trip speed of 51mph.
The Nav worked well - I only really needed it when I was almost at York, to find that Beefeater, but it was very accurate on instructional distances to junctions etc.
I felt every bit as fresh at the end of each leg of the journey as I would've done in the Golf.
The car is up to about 740 miles now, so I should;ve passed teh magic 620 miles threshold, but sitting on dual carriageway maintaining a speed, I didn't feel a change kick in. Around the doors on my next journey I hope to tell the difference.

Re: GTI and GTI plus owners experiences
That's a heck of a thing. I'd chat your dealer, find out what they intend to do and contact CAB / Trading Stanards / whoever to get legal advice at the same time but I wouldn't mention that fact to the dealer or VW. Hope it all works out....jylydesign wrote: Sat Aug 25, 2018 4:47 pm Well, well, once again I am sitting on the roadside waiting for breakdown assistance! 457 miles on the clock and 3rd time it had broken down. When many of us were having new engines under warranty with the problematic 2010 GTI and excessive oil consumption. The 1.4 supercharged/ turbocharged engine. I remember some people got tired of all tbe hassle and did get to reject their cars. The garage must be given a chance to fix things first . Legally something has to be fit for purpose but it's always a bit of a grey area with cars and the manufacturers.

Hi
Well I drove from Wiltshire over to Bury St Edmunds yesterday and I saw two Polo GTIs out on the road.
First one was Reef Blue GTI coming out of Milton Keynes on A421 about 1pm-2pm
Second was Limestone Grey in Bury St Edmunds just by Sainsburys about 6pm.
Also when I was in for a Service last week at Listers Stratford, they had a black one ready for someone. Also mentioned someone had been waiting months and months for theirs...is that you Johnpolo2?
Anyway good to see a few out in the road and before someone says I should have posted in the Spotted section that hasn’t been used since 2014, so thought I’d do it here wheee all the action is.

I sat in the black one at Stratford Listers. The girl dealing with my service got me the keys. Think she felt sorry for me having to wait so long for my new car order.AndyGTi wrote:Hi

Re: GTI and GTI plus owners experiences
I'd have thought that the biggest "fit for purpose" issue we potentially all have is that we bought a 5 seater car that only safely seats 4, with the seatbelt issue. I still don't know whether mine was built with the permanent fix implemented (BW23) as the dealer didn't advise not to use middle rear seat. Anyone here affected but hasn't had the temporary fix yet? If so could you post some pics of your affected seatbelt clasp pair?johnpolo2 wrote: Sun Aug 26, 2018 6:05 am When many of us were having new engines under warranty with the problematic 2010 GTI and excessive oil consumption. Those twin charge 1.4s were abysmally poor for reliability.
Jylydedesign's woes are certainly racking up - I think there's strong grounds for rejection given failure history already - but as always, seek legal advice first.
So what do you want in resolution? If you'd rather have another VW than your money back, then you should be looking for VW to build you another and provide a replacement loaner while you're waiting.
