I'd just piggy-back a fuse, I did this to my old car without an issue (think I inserted the pic right). Plus it's how Nextbase supply their 'hardwire' kit.

However, if I remember when some bloke fitted the black box of doom for the free VW insurance, he popped off the cover on the side as well as the one by the steering wheel. Believe there's a few allen, maybe torx bolts and then some locating tabs and it can be removed - from it's bracket. It may give you enough room to work on it without unplugging anything else

And being nosey, do you mean the camera in the VW badge which flips up, I'd quite fancy one of them meself.

^^ Go with piggyback dual fuse holders - cheap, quick to git and remove. I have fitted hardwired dashcams to 3 cars with the piggyback fuse holders, and removed a front/back dashcam quickly when swapping out the old A1 for our Polo.

How much is a retrofit rear camera kit? For the Golf MK7, the camera used to be a £150 option and about £350 for the retrofit kit. On the Golf, the factory fit camera is now £350 but seemingly exactly the same as the one on my Polo (So why £100 more on the Golf?). You'll need access to VAGCOM or possibly OBD11.

I have the piggy back dual fuse holders but i prefer to fuse straight into the fusebox,i can get it out of its holder but theres just not enough room to turn it around and then push the unlock tab to allow extra terminals to be put in but i will give it another go and if no joy i will just use the piggy back method.

Regarding the rear view camera badge i have it on order so will be with me next week so yes really looking forward to fitting that.£290 delivered

I have the new Genuine Ross Tech HEX-V2 vcds so i have done a few coding changes already.

Also bought the Genuine Rear LED lights which are being fitted on friday afternoon at the dealers.

Really miss not having cruise control and active info display but I'm hoping i can add these at a later date.

What did you manage to code Scotty? Just wondering what's available. I would love to permanently disable the "park assist" kicking in with the front sensors. You can turn off auto park assist, but it's s back on next ignition cycle. Would still like it to come on if I engage first or if I press the button by the gear stick- just for it to not come on by itself, unprompted.

I don't mind stop start staying - I turn it off except for the few parts of the commute where I know I'll be waiting 2 mins if I miss the lights on 2 major roundabouts. I would like it to only kick in when the car has been at a standstill rather than cutting out at about 1.5mph when slowing down. Any threshold to change that? I know you can turn stop-start off altogether by setting a high battery voltage threshold for it to be disabled, but it occasionally has its uses.

Any "kit" to activate where the hardware is already there but VW left a box unticked unless you paid for it? Have had this a few times where XDS was a £280 option on the Scirocco and hill-hold was an £80 option on the Audi A1.
