I may be interested in that change or may buy your wheels. I shouldn’t say this but I don’t think they are much harsher on the road

Collecting a New GTi + with 18 inch Brescia wheels.

How harsh is the ride on our potholed roads?

If too harsh dare I ask if anyone would swap new Brecias for a 17 inch wheel.

Just testing if this might appeal to someone.

Depends what you're used to. If you normally drive warm/hot hatches with firm(ish) suspension, you'll find them fine even with Suspension in Sport mode.

Don't forget the adjustable suspension the GTI and GTI+ has - you can set it to normal and soften it (a bit, the difference isn't dramatic).

Stick with the Brescias, they look far better.

If you are serious please let me know.

My wheels are in perfect condition. It is purely that I am an older grumpy git and live near Tunbridge Wells. The roads are shocking here. I would really like to have a little more tyre under me and the only way to achieve that is drop a wheel size.

Talk to me>>please
Hi, I would love to but my car is on pch so I don't think I can change. I'm sure there will be plenty of other offers...

To be honest, the person collecting the car at the end of the PCH would be highly unlikely to even notice the wheels had been changed.
They'd have to be very knowledgable of the original spec of the car to know, they only look at the condition.
Having said that, you are taking a chance someone in the chain between collection and the next buyer might notice and it all comes back to you.

True but I also have a maintenance contract and they will not pay for replacement tyres a different size to what I have. I did check with them and they said other that they don't have an issue with it

Which is silly, because 17s will be a damned sight cheaper than the 18s/19s you have now.

Unfortunately not. They are 100% unmarked...I am super fussy.

They have been on the car and have covered 3,000 miles.
Seems more than a fair swap to me - marginal tyre wear and no marks for a new set of Parkers, considering the Brescias are a £350 option over the Parkers.

Grudgey: Have you been out in a Parker equipped Polo to ascertain if you are going to feel an appreciable amount of comfort by swapping your Brescias for Parkers?

Not convinced you'll feel much benefit, and the Brescias do look better.

How much sidewall would you gain?
What's the respective tyre sizes/profiles and I'll work it out.

Assuming the 17s are 215/45 R17 (the Brescias are 215/40 R18) Brescia has 86mm sidewall and Parker has 96.75mm, a 12.5% difference.

It may not be as simple as comparing sidewalls - tyre choice comes onto it too with flex and sidewall stiffness.

A stiff 17" tyre can be noisier and less comfortable than a supple 18" tyre. I'd guess that the 17" Michelin Primacy tyre is a little more flexible than my 18" Bridgestone Turanza. When I swapped out my R's Bridgestone Potenza with Michelin PSS of the same size, the difference was like night and day. These Turanzas are ok vs the woeful Potenzas.

The 17s will probably be slightly conifer (I emphasise "slightly") whether the difference is enough to want to swap is another matter. You need a Parkers test drive to be sure.
