Front wiper Fault! 1 week old car!
Saturday night and guess what, my front windscreen wipers have failed! Warning light is on and the wipers do not work at all apart from when on the highest speed setting!?
On inspection seems to be heat and burning smell from somewhere around the motor.
Start stop system error light is also on.
Any one had this or any advice??

Someone here had a similar issue months ago. Get it in to the dealership ASAP. The car is unsafe and unfit for use without working wipers.

I've been booked in for tomorrow (Monday) 14.00 hrs to pick my new car up. When down yesterday to sort out the 5 day VW insurance cover, to get me home and take the Mrs car down to the grand daughter. The sales guy said "your cars in having it's PDI, would you like to see it?" We went into the workshop, I opened the car door and the Mrs asked where the orange dash pads were? (it was her who wanted them) They had forgotten to fit them, it had just the black dash pads.
We went back into the sales showroom and the sales guy went off and got another guy out, he had our original sales agreement and said " you can still take it Monday and we'll order the correct pads to be fitted later". I told him " to keep the bloody car, it's not what I ordered and were the other extra's on the car that I ordered"? He went through the list, he said "yes, and he would order the orange pads and get them fitted and he would start phoning up straight away and will phone me this afternoon with the out come".
He phoned up about 2 hours later and said "they would be in on Wednesday, and would be fitted straight away, with a bit of luck for me to be able pick it up the same day".
I emailed back stating that I want an amendment in my folder, that if I have any problems with anything to do with the dash, instruments or any rattling, due to the fitting in the workshop of the orange pads, they take full responsibility and I want compensating for it.
Really I didn't need much to reject the car, I've waited too long and my enthusiasm for the car has gone. The sales guy said as we walked into the workshop "Your not even smiling", not sure if he expected I'd be doing back flips when I saw the car for the first time?
Not really a good start for a new car, I only need the wipers to judder, and it will be straight back. I haven't even driven it yet, and I'm not sure about it, perhaps when I've had it a few weeks I'll begin to like it, could be a Marmite car?

Yes, within the first month or two I had just come off the motorway, torrential rain, and the front wipers failed. I had to pull over with hazard lights on, then crawl along slowly when the rain slowed. Had it been a few minutes earlier, I’d have been in lane two of the motorway, and I can’t see how I would not have crashed as the rain was so heavy. When the wipers failed, I had literally zero visibility in all directions. It was a failed switch in the steering column assembly. A month later the key failed, fortunately I was parked one mile from home, so I collected the spare key. I also had the radio refuse to turn off when the key was removed, several times too. And CarPlay regularly crashed. Since then it’s been faultless. Apart from lots of condensation.

I’ve not met someone who does not like it. A friend who is 6’5” and drives a five series Beemer had one for a day and said it was a good car, he liked it. His wife’s car is a Golf. Carplay is very temperamental with me too, sometimes taking numerous cycles of unplug/plug to work.
Given my journeys are short, it's not worth the hassle so I just avoid it now.
My stereo also just 'died' the other day and needed a long press of the power button to get it to come back on.

So I’ve taken it to the dealer who claims it’s the motor despite VW assistance pointing out fault codes related to control unit failure and electronic communications failure. A third warning light also appeared (manual stated emissions/engine management fault light). I think the dealer is having me on.
7 to 10 day lead time on part as well, fantastic.
On picking up a loan car with the same engine and gearbox it became very apparent my car is also extremely sluggish with slow throttle response and raspy engine/exhaust tones. This loan cars performance is vastly better. So I requested they look Into this too, to which they replied they couldn’t find anything wrong. The difference in performance is huge so this has really concerned me.
Very close to rejecting this car as I’m well within 30 days. Did not expect this after 1 week and 600 miles!

Assuming it's petrol, I'm thinking it's a faulty coil pack.
We had a Scirocco gave the same sort of error codes and symptoms, it was faulty coil packs.

"7 to 10 day lead time on part" that normally indicates that there is currently a big demand for that part, which kind of follows what other Polo and Fabia owners are finding. Your dealer might be correct, or they are just being lazy and blaming a part which does seem to be failing to soon and too often. How would the control unit be out of warranty? It’s a week old car and that part is not a wear and tear part? I don’t think there was any suggestion by RUM4MO that your control unit wouldn’t be covered under warranty. I discovered that using the right hand USB socket for the iPhone, and the left for a dashcam greatly improved matters. Also, I only unplug the iPhone after turning the car off, it seems not to like a hot unplug. Update about the dash pads. The dealership have agreed to supply and fit the dash pads free of charge when they come in for the inconvenience they has caused, and will let me have a car while they do the job.
