I'm almost 7K Miles in after 5 and half Months on my GTI+ and overall I love it! It's one of the best all round vehicles I have ever owned, and that's a long list of vehicles.
I think that it's easy for people to focus on the issues and niggles that get reported on forums, and in saying that I don't want to take anything away from some of the genuine concerns that I have seen raised, and my car hasn't been without it's niggles but nothing major or anything that has not been overcome or has had a significant impact on the overall ownership experience.
Using the old adage, buy once and buy well, there isn't one aspect of the car that doesn't fulfil by original selection criteria. I love the tech available, the screen with Android auto / Apple Car Play, the ACC, the Active info display to name but a few. The fact that it's not too big, and not too small. Primarily I use it as a daily commuter with just me as an occupant, but when I do need to take the (growing up fast) kids in the back it does so with ease. Predominantly as a motorway commuter, M4, M25, my ability to drive quickly is generally thwarted by the prevailing road conditions, but as such it has proved to be a reliable comfortable daily driver, with the option of Normal and even Eco (which I never use) to further refine the experience, but then with the ability to go in to sport mode or individual and even firm up the dampers (I tend not to), at which point it's a really fun car to drive, and more than adequately quick for me. I like it's (understated?) looks on the outside and love the classic checked seats, with the red dash pad with ambient lighting at night to brighten up the interior.
Yes, there are cars out there that will do things better in certain areas but then they may also be compromised in others. Of all the cars I have had this has to be one of the best all rounders at the price point which ticks all of my wants and needs without any major compromise and with relatively good economy for the type of distance driving with sporty driving and handling characteristics when wanted.
Almost 11 Months on since I ordered the car, if I was theoretically in the market for a new car, I would order the same car, in the same specification again, and as for me there isn't anything else in the market place that competes at the same price point.
I hope this post serves as some positive reading for those people that are enduring the wait for their cars. I can empathise although I thought my 22 Week wait was a long time when orders first went in. But the message from me is that it will be well worth the wait.
