I’m just approaching 7 months on my wait so far, I don’t mind that much that I’m not going to have it over the winter months, as long as it doesn’t turn out to be a myth and it actually exists

All my previous VW orders have happened without any problems. So this time I wonder if dropping an option or two moved the order along or if it makes no difference. I only have an estimated build of April this year. My dealer says changing options at this stage could push it back further. I feel he may just be saying that, however I don't have much faith in the South African plant.
True or false?

If your car is within 8 weeks of anticipated build, to change your order now will almost certainly push it back in the scheduling.

I have had a ridiculous wait on my last VW - my current Golf R. It took 8.5 months when VW were knocking out the cheap lease specials (basic spec) in 3 months. I only added Pretoria 19" wheels and the Lapis blue paint as options It had to be one of those options, almost certainly the wheels as someone ordered a diamond black one with Pretorias and waited almost 8 months.

It may not be as long as people here waiting for a GTI, but my wait was almost 3 times that of others ordering the same car with no options, and no WLTP going on to cause delays.

Thanks Monkey.
As many of us have concluded VW are using WLTP as an excuse for everything.
While it has contributed to problems I would say that the company appears not adept at bringing orders together in a timely manner with all of the many option variants.
It's the options they all make money on I guess but it appears to overcomplicate matters at times.

VW appear to have an utter disregard for it's customers , employing a total lack of transparency in relation to customer orders. I wonder if other manufacturers treat their customers the same way or is it a particular VW skill honed over many years?!

I'm wondering if the wheels are the cause for these huge delays.
Any other options on top of the GTi+ spec ?
I doubt it's the standard Parkers or optional Brescias holding things up, unless both wheel types are hard to get a hold of. It seems that UK RHD GTIs (whether they be pluses or not) are not being built right now. If non-pluses were getting through and non-pluses weren't, I'd guess the culprit would be the active info electronic dash or LED lights as most of the other plus-specific equipment is pretty routine and cheap stuff on the options list for the other trims (auto wipers and lights, anti-dazzle rear view mirror etc.).

The last of the GTIs to get through before the Summer Shutdown (not affected by the WLTP situation) were a mix of plus and non-plus, with and without Brescias.

VW operate a just in time stock inventory system, unlike the likes of BMW who will build pretty much any car in their range (except the proper "M" models) from scratch and deliver it within 8 weeks of ordering.

VW don't generally build to stockpile like Ford and Vauxhall.do either (Your "brand new," Astra might've been sat in a muddy field for 6.months).

It's lucky they make desirable cars - I would not wait a year for many cars out there.

I know my dealer used WLTP as an excuse.

Several times their protestations were found out to be untrue.

Whilst being told no Up! GTi were available dealers up and down the country were supplying the car.

Build week data was fabricated and the APP never aligned with what the dealer was telling me.

Well Mr Dealer I'm a simple soul and genuinely like to be told the TRUTH no matter how upsetting that might me.

New Year resolution to be less grumpy has been broken by 11.45am....lol
Did they say no Up! GTIs were available or just that they couldn't get a hold of one or had already had their allocation with another order? They are very short in supply dealership allocation looks to be extremely tight. My local group (Pulman) only got 1 Up! GTI between 2 large dealerships. I was tempted by one unit I realised it wouldn't hold a light to the Lupo GTI which was an amazing little rocket for its time.

I do wonder if Eire customers are waiting as long as UK for Polo GTIs - there doesn't seem many Eire members actively on here to ask.

Greetings everyone!!!

Cheers on the New year - I wish you all, first and foremost health and happiness, and with those two, many miles without any kind of service on your VW`s.

After the link here to the ADAC site, on 08.12.2018 I dared my luck and called the local dealer to find out what the current news are ...

Starting the conversation with - Hell, ADAC posted WLTP approved for the GTI /as it seems this forum is more informed than VW dealers/, when is my car coming ...

After checking the system I got info that my car is going to be built on 21.12.2018. - knowing that your car is getting built on the last working day before Christmas and the holidays, all my hopes for quality are through the window, but hey - it could be worse - built on 02.01.2019, after days of drinking :D

And so, all I did for Christmas was thinking - is it built, is it not, how much will they delay it this time .... Some Christmas :D

No wonder Santa uses deer ... imagine if he planned to use a new VW to deliver gifts for Christmas, we would have 1 Christmas every 730 days ...

Today, after some lucky outcomes during the day, I thought I shall test my luck and call the VW dealer...
There is no better way to test if your day is lucky, than calling your VW dealer and getting some positive info from the call :D

And what do you know - I have a chassis number, but ..... no engine number .... :D

So this is something new at least and you could think of it as a little positive :D

He promised to give me an update on Monday, because he thinks this is some kind of old info, not refreshed after the holidays...

Of all this, at least we know that if there are delays, it might be related to engine parts or as some of you thought - they are probably building left hand vehicles at the moment, as mine is one

At least they are clearing the back log ... ordered mine on march 2018, config matches UK`s GTI + models with brescia`s, sunroof and beats sound...

Tried to get any sort of update on my car. VW chat said system down. At least VW are consistent in something.
2 weeks from now I will be celebrating my 1 year anniversary from ordering. Thinking of throwing a party.

I too will have my one year anniversary this month. Went and saw dealer this week and they checked with another order for a GTI+ which was ordered at the same time but is getting built this month. the only addition on my extras is the sunroof giving me an unconfirmed build week 9. Good grief they have had 12 months to get the bits ready!!!!!

VW using the just in time system for components. Just in time for who I wonder, certainly not the customer.
