Not long to go now before I will not care whether cars are about as I will not be here!
However at the moment I am lucky to own a 2007 XJ Jagwaaar diesel which is great for gliding graciously around or the Gti Polo for more sporty moments. I have to say the Jag is nearly as fast as the Polo and so much more comfortable as well as having comparable mpg being a diesel and being made more or less totally of Aloooominum ,as the Yanks say. Worth about £10000 maximum now with 35000 on the clock, a lovely car.It is however a pain to find any parking space big enough.

That's another way my driving tastes have changed.
Used to like my big(ish) cars, I now look at anyone driving a big car on their own as a wasteful fool.
Seen a definite change towards smaller cars in Aberdeen since the oil crash, and speaking to many of the owners they really don't mind.
They now see the time when they drove a Q7/X5/X6 to work with only them in it as silly.

And those people driving the Q7, X5 and the X6 have them on finance, what do they say about males driving round in big cars

Small cars can be as well equipped as large cars now, small cars are getting bigger, it really is no hardship to have a small car any more.

I see more big premium SUVs driven by women on the school run on the rare occasion I get home early enough to park up at home and stroll to school to pick the kids up - and none of them know how to park them.

I never had anything as big as an X5/Q7 etc.
BMW 5-series is the biggest car I've had.
But, yes, I was silly doing it then and I knew it.
Used to look around at at the huge swathes of space wasted around me and think "jeez this is stupid"
And I now realise my generation, in driving excessively big cars, has cuffed the planet for the next generations - they're screwed and its partly our fault.
What the market really needs, IMO, is 'extendable' cars (for want of a better phrase)
5 days of the week, a Smart for two would do me fine.
Some sort of easily latched on 'pod' to carry passengers at weekends would be perfect.
This idea of having to compromise your car to suit all your needs at all times is very old fashioned.

Some one asked for the numbers caught 'speeding' on smart motorways last year by average speed cameras.
The answer was 89,000 + I can't remember the actual number.
