Unsure if they're automatic or not, but manually they certainly are... Can't imagine them changing that from the standard polo. Just push them in.steeve wrote:Do the mirrors on a Gti + fold? I need to fold the mirrors when entering the garage....

Yes, they fold electrically. You can set them to fold In with the adjustment knob (On the move, like going into a garage) or set to fold automatically when locking the car.Adam_013 wrote: Wed Feb 13, 2019 8:23 pmUnsure if they're automatic or not, but manually they certainly are... Re: A quick questgion about mirrors.....
Isn't the default to fold when locking?
I'm struggling to see why it wouldn't be, who wouldn't want their folding mirrors to fold when locked?
Any car we've had with folding mirrors, including our current Sportage, they fold on lock and that seems the logical setting to me.
It's nice confirmation the car is locked when I look out the window at night, for one.

Re: A quick questgion about mirrors.....
I think you misunderstood my post - they do fold automatically when locking (although you can select them not to in the car set-up menus, for whatever reason you like), but if you need to fold them in before you're locking the car (like squeezing into a garage as per OPs query ), you can manually select them to fold by the adjustment knob.Andy Beats wrote: Thu Feb 14, 2019 10:34 am Isn't the default to fold when locking?

If you look in your owners handbook, and look under Exterior mirrors, in my book, page 98. It gives you a full explanation on the workings of the mirrors, also a picture to help you out Also how to activate the nearside mirror or offside (if you drive on the right) to tilt down when reversing, so you can see the kerb and not damage your rims.

I wish this feature was available on all Polos.silverhairs wrote:If you look in your owners handbook, and look under Exterior mirrors, in my book, page 98. My carista can't activate it either, despite the option being there now on the radio. *Sigh*

Which feature do you wish was on all Polo's? The mirror fold or the reverse tilt?Adam_013 wrote: Thu Feb 14, 2019 11:52 amI wish this feature was available on all Polos.silverhairs wrote:If you look in your owners handbook, and look under Exterior mirrors, in my book, page 98. With my mate's VCDS cable, I was able to activate mirror reverse tilt on the wife's Audi A1. Uses the same motor that does the general electric adjustment, so the hardware is already there and is able to know when reverse is selected. Would be surprised if you can't activate it on the Polo also.
Folding mirrors are a different kettle of fish. If you didn't spec it then the hardware isn't there (motors for the auto folding/unfolding).

Re: A quick questgion about mirrors.....
The mirror tilt.
I was able to activate on me Mums A1 too using Carista. I've enabled the option on my polo and it appears on the radio screen but when ticked nothing happens when you put it in reverse regardless of what setting the mirror adjustment knob is on.
I was even cheeky enough to take it to VW who raised a ticket to VW special people who replied saying it's not available on my model - beats
Shame really, something I really do wish I had.

Re: A quick questgion about mirrors.....
I think that in general, the VW Group’s approach to reverse tilt means that the car needs the correct higher level of controller to achieve that, even with Audi A4s they tend to need to have specified memory seats to have reverse tilt. Of course if you sourced the higher level controllers as necessary, then it should be possible.

Sure you haven't enabled it and it's available, but not set for the drop? Knob need to be on left adjust and you need to set how far you want the low tilt. If it is possible, but you haven't made the before/after adjustments then it won't tilt. Worth a try before giving up.

Re: A quick questgion about mirrors.....
I'd do that if I had an owners manual. But thank you for your helpful reply. It will help when the car turns up end of March.silverhairs wrote: Thu Feb 14, 2019 11:36 am If you look in your owners handbook, and look under Exterior mirrors, in my book, page 98. If you look at the link below, it shows you how to adjust the mirror to dip so you can see the side kerb
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BARmpYS7K4w
One thing members have not thought of when the mirror refuses to dip down, if you make it so the nearside mirror dips, you have to have the switch in the drivers door switched to the left hand mirror, if you have set it back to the centre position, (0) the mirror will not dip.
