Usb connection

Post by zach.lambert »

Does anyone else have a issue with Android auto usb connection? I got my car in August and it's burnt through 5 usb c cables. Not sure if my phone tries to draw too much power or the car pushes too much through the cables.
Phone is a razer phone with a massive battery which I think could be the cause.

Not got my Polo yet but in my current Leon I have found with my Galaxy S9 that 3rd party USB C cables only seem to work for Android Auto (or any data connection in the car) for a very short amount of time though charging works fine, never had any issues with my S7 and 3rd party micro USB cables. I now only use genuine Samsung USB C cables in the car and don't have the issue any more.

Seems USB C is a bit finicky with it's data connection compared to micro USB.

VW gave me one of their branded braided cables when I collected my car, no issues here with my Pixel 2 running USB C

No issue here with a Pixel 2 on USB C - I did have plenty of issues with fake cables in the past. Right now I'm using an Anker. Some USB C cables don't follow spec, if it's not an official cable then try getting a reputable one.

Ah ok I'll try some better cables then. Strange vw didn't have one for my phone when I got the car. The dealer came over with micro and lightning connectors.
Thanks for the tips about cables though

I managed to get a nice short USB cable that means my iphone can sit in the cubby hole and no excess cable lying around.
Also got it in reddish/orange braided finish to match the beats interior.

Genuine Samsung USB C cables (the same ones you get with a new Samsung phone) are only a couple of quid on Amazon, I find they have much snugger fit in the port on the phone than 3rd party ones and have a perfect data connection.

The words 'genuine' and 'Amazon' don't sit comfy with me, I rate Amazon as more dodgy than ebay these days.
Just be careful it's a reputable seller.

I know, I am also very suspicious but it is EXACTLY the same cable that came with my phone, same connecters, same feeling insulation on the cable, makes the same click when plugging in and it had the same packaging, it also instantly brought Android Auto back to life in my car.

Of course the same day it was delivered I found the cable that did come with my phone which I had been looking for before I ordered another one! lol
