Re: New GTI + delivery
I've ordered a personalised number plate. I received the DVLA documents for it a while ago and handed them to my dealer who said he'd sort everything out for me. I don't even know if my reg has been assigned to the car yet.monkeyhanger wrote: Wed May 01, 2019 10:15 pmYou have to know what your new reg will be, and then you ring VW insurance and tell them when you want it to start (after giving out the usual insurance quote answers). It's not something your dealer can do for you, but they usually prompt you to do so, so that they can tax the car, knowing that they have proof it is insured when the tax is applied to the car.S_94 wrote: Wed May 01, 2019 9:55 pmI was under the assumption I'd have to insure the car before I collect it on Saturday. I wasn't even told about the 5-day insurance.monkeyhanger wrote: Wed May 01, 2019 9:53 pm
You get 5 days "free" insurance with your new VW, so that the dealer doesn't have to pester you for proof of insurance when you drive it away. I say "free", because although it costs you nowt, it does come with the hard sell for you to buy a full year from them. VW insurance used to be AXA provided, it might be Allianz now. I always found the full year quote to be silly money vs what I could get it for.
Perhaps they've pulled the scheme, or maybe your dealer is a bit slow and will realise the days before collection that he/she can't tax it without proof that you have insurance.
I've had it on my last 6 new VWs, it's a convenience thing for the dealership to tax your car, and had it on my GTI+ in August.
He's booked me in for Saturday at 11am to collect the car. Was told finance documents would be sent to me today (they weren't). I spoke with him on the phone yesterday and he didn't mention anything which is strange. Guess I'll just have to wait until he prompts me to do something.

Wow August. You were very lucky. I ordered mine Easter bank hol (March) last year. Still waiting for it. last I was told, delivery probably late May.Jefferz wrote: Wed May 01, 2019 3:39 pmI ordered it August Bank holiday, they were honest to me and said I was looking at the end of May delivery so they are technically early. Still a fair wait though.gonk1959 wrote: Wed May 01, 2019 3:30 pmJefferz wrote: Wed May 01, 2019 2:47 pm My sales person emailed yesterday stating that my car was at a UK port, next thing I know I get an email today telling me that my car would be with them by Thursday evening so can I collect it Friday.
These final steps happened to fast for me, I’ll share a picture when I get it.
Good on you. How long you waited for car?

Thanks EmmaBxEmmaBx wrote: Wed May 01, 2019 8:02 pmI got a years free insurance with my current Polo back in 2016 so when I placed the order for the new one last year I asked if they still did it, they said yes and so it was all agreed. I only found out they no longer do it a few months back when a friend of mine bought from VW. I emailed my dealer to find out if it would still be honoured and thankfully they agreed.gonk1959 wrote: Wed May 01, 2019 10:03 amHi EmmaBxEmmaBx wrote: Tue Apr 30, 2019 5:58 pm Also just got a call to say mine has arrived at the dealershipcame from Sheerness (arrived there on 23/04).
He couldn’t tell me when I could pick it up though as when I ordered mine (Feb 2018) I managed to get the years free insurance, which they don’t do anymore. He reckons that alone can take up to three days.
My tracker is also still on 5b.
Can’t believe I’ll be driving around in it soon, was sure it was a myth![]()
interesting. I emailed my dealer as they have promised some form of compensation for the time my car is taking to reach me after ordering last March and told delivery would be June poss July same year. Also told the offer inc 1yr free insurance. Told a month later it was a mistake coupled with the 1st of many delivery date let downs. I suggested they honored the free insurance by way of compensation. 2 days later and still no reply. This is the type of treatment I have received ever since going into VW and ordering car. Seems they just don't care![]()
If they can honour mine I do not see why they can’t honour yours?! It’s like a penny in the ocean for them!
Yes your experience same as mine. Was told I got free insurance and then told its not free a month later. So will push it. Odd tho. Still no reply from dealer regarding this, 3 days on.

Could it finally be crossing?
A ship from Emden headed for Sheerness for the first time in days.
This final wait is a killer.

Did you get a 5b notification when to say it arrived in Emden? Still waiting on mine, supposed to have arrived in Emden last Fridaypeeceeuk wrote: Thu May 02, 2019 9:03 pm Could it finally be crossing?

Just a quick update on this. Have been given 5 days of free insurance starting on Saturday.S_94 wrote: Wed May 01, 2019 9:55 pmI was under the assumption I'd have to insure the car before I collect it on Saturday. It was mooted online that the manufacturer provided insurance didn’t meet the expectations of the owners when it came to claims and when the renewal came around there where huge jumps in prices
They offered me a quote to insure the car for a year but it's about £400 more compared to what I can get elsewhere.

No.
But then others didn't get notifications until after being told by their dealers that the car was available so I'm not going by notifications.
I know that my car arrived in Emden on the 19th of April and was ready for exit on the 23rd.
There was only one ship that headed to Sheerness from Emden since then until now and my car wasn't on it.
All the other ships have been to Grimsby and Tyne.

Picked my SEL up on Wednesday, tracker still says in transit. Dealer was told it would arrive with them next Wednesday but it arrived overnight Mon/Tues this week.
Re: New GTI + delivery
They offered £1100. Can get a quote for around £750 online.gonk1959 wrote: Fri May 03, 2019 7:53 am
£400 MORE???What was the full quote? thats a hell of lot. May I ask your age?
I'm 24. The joys of being under 25 and trying to get reasonable car insurance. I've had my licence since 2012, never had any claims.

Re: New GTI + delivery
Not a bad quote at £750 for the gti. My car insurance for my 2015 SE polo is £800/year now. Would be more if I didn't have my mother as a named driver. The biggest cost to my insurance is where I live (East London), despite being 30, had a license for over 10 years, never had a claim or points on my license, and been building up my no claims to 3 years since I got my first car back in 2015, previously I used to only hire a car/van when needed. When I get my GTI my insurance is expected to shoot up to £1300/year. Late last year I moved to a new address a couple of streets away but because it went from postcode E13 to E15 the premium shot up £300/year despite the car now being kept on a driveway in a quiet culdesac rather on a busy street.S_94 wrote: Fri May 03, 2019 10:42 am They offered £1100. Wow..that's not a good quote for sure that id accept but I guess area and age does count for alot. mines £425 for a GTI but I am 59 and I have over 10yrs no claims bonus and I live in High Wycombe Bucks. Wow that's really surprised me.l3rady wrote: Fri May 03, 2019 11:44 amNot a bad quote at £750 for the gti. My car insurance for my 2015 SE polo is £800/year now.
