No idea then, just going by what the dealer's system is saying

So its either says emden in the system as it is in transit to emden or is actually there in emden and built earlier than its letting on or was built closer to home. Who knows, but I'm just happy that it's actually built and on its way.

66 weeks to the day after placing my order I finally took delivery today - it’s an absolute corker of a car - keep the faith everyone, it’s very much worth the wait :D

Realistically, how many continuous hours graft on your car alone will that detailer do over the 2 days theh have it? I'm guessing 6-8 hours. £70-£100 an hour and maybe £100 on materials is something I couldn't justify to my sensibilities.

I would plumb in that new washing machine, and did that and renovated my house top to bottom (£18k materials at trade rates and a few months spare time saved me paying a builder £45k for the same work) because I'm not going to pay someone 3-5x my hourly rate at work to do a job I can do to a high standard.

Then again I put in 37-40 hours a week at work. If I was doing a 60+ hour working week, or on mega bucks I might re-evaluate my spare time (and would probably be in an Audi RS3).
For me it’s never been about the cost, it more about time management, my time. Way back when I first ordered the car I fully intended to detail it myself, but things have changed and now with my average working day consisting of me leaving home around 4am and not returning home until around 7pm+ means I’m definitely in the 60hr+ week (probably closer to 72hrs). I’m gonna drop the car off, let someone else do the job, then head to the airport for a short sunshine break before returning to pick it up

Been shown a screenshot of their system showing the original build week as 15, actual build week as 17. It shows the car is currently in transit and at Emden along with a load of other info such as Vin and engine number. The excitement is building!
The tracker is worse than useless. mine was built week 11. tracker still says in transit. nearly 9 wks ago. is this normal? been a waiting game for 14 months now.

I got a similar email update from the dealer on the weds 24th, so I spoke to them and they stated that it’s around 10 days for delivery, it was delivered the following Tuesday (last week).
I’d initially intended to collect it today, but due to delays doing the PDI, and my questioning the spec, it’s now going to be next Saturday when I collect my car. Which tbh suits my plans as it’ll only be 1 week before I’d intended to take it to the detailer for a new car prep, (polishing, ceramic coating etc).

Meanwhile I’ve been looking at sourcing a set of steel rims that I can fit either winter tyres onto, or when I get a set of Michelin P4’s fitted put the horrendous tyres that the car comes with (to keep as spares) and carry 1 should I head down to Murcia and beyond. However I’m drawing a blank in my search for alternative rims. Spare Brescia rims are around £240 a piece
So advise please. I read alot about the factory fitted tyres being rubbish and new owners opting for p4's Can someone tell me the pro's and cons? Are the p4's the bees knees? I may order a set like you Nora and a set of rims for winter tyres and flog the factory fitted to help pay for them?

I love my white GTI but that looks absolutely smashing! Seriously making me wonder if I made the wrong colour choice. Stunning

The dealer advises me that they can’t seem to find a suitable steel rim for the polo, the only size available is a 15” and would need a tyre with a Hefty side wall to compensate for the difference in size.
The only ones available are 5 1/2 x 15 and are £221.92 each.

My guess is that you would need one hell of a side wall on the tyre on those.
I do have a set of 15” steel rims fitted with winter continental 850 tyres that I have for my current 6R polo, so the search for suitable steel rims continues

I've commented loads on the differences between the Turanzas and PS4s, having made the switch months ago - search the forum. The difference is night and day between them.

Try selling the Turanzas, good luck with that - mine have been on Ebay for 2.5 months with no bites at £150 for the set of 4. 215/40 R18 is such a niche size, no one uses them or wants them.

I suspect the best thing you can do with the stock tyres is get used to the car, have some fun, and wear them out, then fit P4’s. My next course of action is probably get a spare rim (Brescia or other) and fit it with a P4, as I detest space saver tyres, and won’t consider driving on the continent without a full size spare tyre.
If I do manage to source steel rims I can’t decide if I should look for 17” or 18” rims and I haven’t really looked into the availability of winter tyres in those sizes

With the battery located in the spare wheel well in the GTI/GTI+ and the space saver stored on top of the battery, is there room for a full size spare to fit between the battery and the underside of the boot floor?

Nope! There's only about 20mm between the top of the space saver and the underside of the false bottom boot floor in its upper position.
