Stearing Issues R-Line

Post by AshleyScrivens »

Hi All,

Since picking up my brand new Polo R-Line I'm finding various issues with the steering, its been back to the dealer twice and I'm not getting anywhere!

1. The steering seems to not be straight, I'm always having to turn the wheel slightly right to stay straight. If I let go of the wheel on a perfectly straight and flat motorway my car will turn off to the left. (Dealer says this is normal)

2. The steering wheel seems to vibrate around 70MPH

3. There's a loud clunking noise when I reverse or park using nearly full lock (Again dealer says this is normal)

The dealer said they rebalanced the wheels and checked the tracking which was slightly out front and back but said they can't do anything about the back it can't be adjusted (sounds worrying!)

Has anyone else experienced these kinds of issues, my Audi A1 I traded in never did any of this, neither did my polo before it. I have given up with the dealer I purchased it from and going try get another to look at it maybe.

Thanks in advanced!

Sounds like legit problems to me.

1 - on a flat road id expect the car to remain straight, on normal A-roads with a camber however id expect potential pull
2 - no vibration should occur during normal operation, which 70 mph is. is this only slight, or can you visibly see the wheel oscillating? either way i'd look to get the dealer on a road test to show
3 - cant comment, ive had this on old cars and its been worn cv joints or mounts

Are you an AA or RAC member?
If you are you can get preferential rates on all levels of engineer reports about a car, from basic to detailed.
Non-members can also get it done, albeit slightly dearer.
Once they (hopefully) detect the problem you can see about getting it fixed and go after the dealer/VW for a refund on the inspection cost.

1. It could be that your car just need wheel alignment.
2. balancing tyres?
how many miles have you done?

I noticed this on my first ever drive in the car, it had 10miles on the clock.

Wheel balancing and tracking have been checked as I mentioned.

I'm gonna take it another dealer and get them go on a test drive with me

The experience I had with my 2014 Polo 6C was very similar with exception of the steering wheel issue you have. Turned out to be the left rear shock AND both front tyres but thankfully had all issues resolved by the dealer. Took them long enough to get it done but yeah it was all sorted in the end.
