New Polo GTI Plus Nav question
Hi all,
I'm looking at a Polo Gti Plus, currently haven't specced Sat nav. If i was to change my mind later on is this something that can be activated by the dealership or is it a different head unit and the Nav section isn't fitted?
I really like the active dash on my Golf gti and find it useful having the nav section shown in between the dials, so think i'll miss it quite a bit...

Re: New Polo GTI Plus Nav question
Thanks, i've seen in IOS 13 that dual screens are supported, so hoping that VW make the second screen available for Apple to use with an update, or even better it just works wen IOS 13 lands.
Fingers crossed i guess, i' going to borrow a GTI plus today for the day, so will ask I'm pretty sure if i ask the dealership they won't know....

Who knows if VW will enable the function, probably save it for cars with the new version of MIB being rolled out in the latest cars.
Tbh the media screen is so high up and close to you in the Polo that it doesn't really matter from a usability pov.

Honestly I wouldn't bother with the factory nav. It's nowhere near as good as Google Maps or Waze on your phone, and with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay being standard fit, there's absolutely no reason to bother with anything else.

Re: New Polo GTI Plus Nav question
It’s just good as if it’s on the display in front of me I can use it to quickly find ways round any traffic/diversions etc, without it the AID display is just showing the same info as any other car and seems a bit pointless.vc-10 wrote: Mon Jul 01, 2019 1:58 pm Honestly I wouldn't bother with the factory nav. I get what you mean, I often just leave Google Maps on the centre screen for that sort of reason.
With ACC I like having the ACC page up in the centre of the gauge cluster, so I know what it's doing!

The dealership have come back and included Nav for no extra cost, really can't fault them so far for trying to do me a deal and get me from the golf into the Polo.
Think i'm going to go for it...

Well if they're throwing it in for free, then it's a no-brainer!

Re: New Polo GTI Plus Nav question
I have the factory sat nav and I'm glad I got it.
When you connect the infotainment system to the internet it also supports the traffic conditions and with the digital dash the big part of the effect is gone if you don't have the factory sat nav
If you use Apple Car play, you can have the Google maps on the centre display and the display in front of the driver switches the car navigation off, so you can't have both navigations on at the same time.
Also if you cannot display the Google maps in front of you. That displays only in the centre screen... in the meantime the centre screen is either blank, or you can display someting else in the meantime.
Additionaly the resolution of google maps in the centre screen is just not up to scratch....
Plus side of google maps - loads the addresses faster and updates of the maps are also faster

I also have AID and satnav ... satnav was lost money for me. All you said is true but waze is so much better than stock navigation.fazzy wrote: Tue Jul 02, 2019 9:29 pm I have the factory sat nav and I'm glad I got it.

This! It's the routing that Waze and Google wipe the floor with the stock system. I've had Google Maps dynamically reroute me around accidents several times, the traffic alerts are far quicker to react than the ones in the factory nav.Dark_cze wrote: Tue Jul 02, 2019 9:39 pm I also have AID and satnav ... satnav was lost money for me. Re: New Polo GTI Plus Nav question
Sat Nav is an option I won’t be bothering with when I order a GTI+ late this year / early next year. I’m also struggling to understand why some find it important to be able to display sat nav on the infotainment screen and on the AID. With the infotainment screen being adjacent to, and level with the AID, it’s not like it’s difficult to be able to see the Waze or Google maps on the infotainment screen. Maybe I’m missing something.................vc-10 wrote: Wed Jul 03, 2019 11:09 amThis! It's the routing that Waze and Google wipe the floor with the stock system. Re: New Polo GTI Plus Nav question
The other thing I've found, and maybe it's a setting or maybe it's a Seat thing, but the AID satnav is very cropped vertically, so you don't get to see much ahead of you, while Google Maps or Waze via Android auto gives a much clearer view of the road ahead. I've missed turns as a result.
Would I take it for free? Yes. I kind of did- satnav is part of the spec on all but the base SE model Ibiza. Would I spec it from the options list? Not a chance.
