hi all,
just wanted to leave some thanks for all the information(some of which i printed off to haggle the dealers with!)
after a string of mk2's i finally caught up with the modern world and plumped for a 2001 3dr gti in flash red.
can anyone offer any advice on ecu chip upgrades for the gti?
also, any idea bof the maximum bhp achieved with the1.6 16v?
thanks again,
yet another sheffield gti owner
Welcome, welcome!
I hope you are enjoying your new found love for the Polo!
As for ECU upgrades I'm not sure there are many...I've found that the car is fast enough as it is...my six points on my licence is proof of that!
I've had mine on a rolling road twice, the first time it got 130bhp and the second was 132bhp, this is a stock engine, no mods running with Shell Optimax the second run...pretty respectable for a small motor...

Welcome to the group........
Sheffield.... Must be home to the Polo GTi by now with all the cars we have in the area!!!!
I saw three yesterday!!!!! all while i was in a lexus!!!
I'm sure you'll enjoy the car... It has a few nagging pain in the a**e problems but it's still worth it. I'm over in the Chapeltown area where abouts are you in Sheff? I saw a red GTi for sale @ Gilders the other week when i was picking up my car....Looked in good nick.
Cheers
Dave.

I'd agree with that. I might be a bit biased after coming straight from a 998cc Mini to a Polo GTi but its certainly plenty quick enough for my needs, and to be honest any car that can manage twice the national speed limit is fast enough for most I hope. Seeing as the GTi makes 127mph, I think it qualifiescyhliu wrote:As for ECU upgrades I'm not sure there are many...I've found that the car is fast enough as it is...my six points on my licence is proof of that!
My car is running Optimax at the moment, my first ever tankful! I have to say its very impressive. The engine seems quieter and more responsive, and my MPG is up slightly. If I can locate a Shell garage in time, I'll have another Optimax fill-up, otherwise it'll be a trip to BP. Don't fancy going back to regular supermarket fuel any more
130bhp. Quality
Oh and er, welcome btw

red 3dr,gilders.....yes thats the one!
yes i am enjoying it!
as i said to my freind the other day "it's like a fookin dodgem!"
the old lady wanted something modern to protect the nipper and i just couldnt bring myself to live with the sheer ugliness of the mk4 golf.
as the polo gti shares the same engine with the lupo cup car i got one on gran tourismo 3 and tuned it to 273bhp,is this possible in the real world?
i need another 30-40 bhp(reliable) out of it and it sounds asthmatic up to about 5000rpm,
so i'm going to leave the engine as standard till next year when i'm planning a lightly breathed on 1.8t conversion by jbs.
thanks for the warm welcome,
