Special customers only event

In layman’s terms, this means I’m not special but they are trying to meet sales targets before the 69 reg comes out.

Unbelievable deals on cars ordered and delivered by the end of August apparently.

I’ve received a card in the post which claims an exclusive package has been prepared for me and that all I need to do is make an appointment with the special code on the card.

So I’ve made an appointment to see if they are so desperate to reach their sales targets that they can wipe out £3k of negative equity and maybe sell me a T-Roc

I get invites to these exclusive ‘VIP customer’ events periodically from my VW dealer. I’ve never been curious enough to attend one to see what their ‘too good to be true, once in a lifetime opportunity never to be repeated etc. etc.’ offer is, as the timing of receiving these invites has never coincided with me wanting nor needing to think about changing my car.

I think you’re right - the timing of these events are likely to coincide with a slack sales period where a dealer is at risk of not hitting their monthly / quarterly sales targets. I’d be surprised if a dealer is able to beat the normal Drive the Deal prices though, although if they’re really desperate for sales........................

I’ve never had one of these invites at a time that I’m ready to grab a deal that suits me, but if you don’t go and try you will not know what you have missed.
My daughter who has a late 2009 Ibiza 1.4 16V 86PS is ready to change cars and move up a model and a level, I always thought a Leon 2.0TSI at maybe 190PS would be what she needs with her having a shortish in town commute to deal with, BF has a Lotus Esprite GT for fun and uses buses for commuting - and why not if it suits. Her car of choice turns out to be a Leon Cupra ST which comes with 4WD, so I’ll need to work on changing that! Seems a 4WD is essential in case either her mum or me need helping out in our old age , I think a 2WD with winter tyres will beat a high powered 4WD with summer tyres, I know I’ve been there done that. Pity VW don’t have anything that suits her, I’d think continuing to avoid the 1.5TSI Evo is still a must for anyone wanting a manual gearbox, though a friend bought a used T-Roc 1.5TSI 6speed and it seems to be okay!

I've recieved such offers in the past: "As your PCP is about to end it's now time to change cars, come on down to a special event and see for yourself the exciting latest VW models." When the PCP was nowhere near about to end, current agreement finishes in 2020....

Well I have been to the event today in the full expectation of it being marketing crap as I posted originally and I wasn't wrong

So this special package that had been prepared didn't exist for a start. It was like walking in on any other day, they had to find my details on the system and start from scratch with settlement figures. Turns out I am £2,200 in negative equity so as I expected it is not doable to change for something bigger only a year into the agreement and the salesman conceded that.

I noticed all the staff were wearing upgrade event t-shirts and there were VIP posters up so I asked the salesman what would happen if I was not in negative equity, i.e. what is special about the special event? He struggled to think for a moment and then said well its an upgrade event that works for some customers but not everyone and the APR and deposit contribution rates aren't always this good... later checked VW main website where it was the same but no big promotion claims...

So it was indeed all smoke and mirrors but at least it passed some time and it was quite amusing to fully take in the level of marketing s**t

I received a ‘we want your car!’ letter in this morning’s post from the dealer I got my car from. It says they are ‘confident that with their part exchange valuation, together with their enhanced new car offers available this month, will see me driving away in my new ‘69 plate car!

It’s been filed, ready for shredding .

Only had a genuine offer once a long time ago for a ford escort - got it at cost and the dealer showed me the price he had to pay ford - the dealer needed to make one more sale to meet the quarterly target. Most are not good offers and can be beaten by others.
