0-60mph in 6.1seconds. Nowhere near here that I can do 0-62mph without breaking the speed limit

Oficial, if I'm not mistaken, is 6.9 seconds 0-62mph (100kmph) and I have seen many reviews get that down to 6.5 comfortably.

My 6.1, I won't argue that it was scientific in nature and that it should be taken with a pinch of salt.
Officially it's 6.7s (or at least is for pre PPF/OPF) 0-62, I'm guessing that's the equivalent of 0-60 in about 6.4s, so beating that 6.4 by 0.3s isn't beyond the realms of likelihood. Just making sure we were comparing apples with apples by clarifying 0-60 or 0-62.
And measured using verified gps equipment such as dragy or similar

The AID is great, there’s so many options and settings I’ve definitely not even scratched the surface of what I can set up with it.

Definitely going to replace the Bridgestones when I can as the tramping is pretty noticeable but otherwise I’m really in love - phenomenal car.Image
Ooo you have the same styling as I do in mine. I absolutely love the black roof and black wing mirrors makes the car very snazzy... Oh and the Brescia alloys .... [emoji3059]

I can confirm it's quick and managed a 0-60mph in 6.1 seconds with launch control, an extra passenger, 18inch wheels and MPS4 tyres. I'm pretty sure a 6 second flat is achievable given the right conditions.
Is that 0-60 in 6.1 or 0-62 (100kmph) as per official measures in 6.1?

The MPS4 tyres will certainly help with that, but I doubt the official times were done on the stock Bridgestone Turanzas - the review/press cars on 18" Brescias with identifiable tyres were on Michelins.

Mine's just ticked over to 9k miles and it's far more eager with those miles on. Had the PS4s on for 5k miles now - I may have to rotate the wheels soon to even out the wear.
Wish mine came with Michelin PS4. Even a Nissan Qashqai comes with PS4.

There’s masses to love approximately the Volkswagen Polo GTI and it has the overall performance required to wear the enduring GTI badge. However, it’s been installation to offer secure and practical handling and as a result it’s lacking in excitement while as compared to magnificence leaders along with the Ford Fiesta ST.

The Polo GTI is bigger than ever, gives plenty of interior accommodation and could be very subtle for a warm supermini, but its loss of a manual gearbox alternative coupled with the slightly lacklustre performance of its DSG transmission means it’s now not magnificence main as a drivers’ automobile, which in a few respects manner it misses the point absolutely.
Our Choice
Volkswagen Polo GTI

Volkswagen’s new Polo GTI has big boots to fill because the preceding generation version became lots-cherished with the aid of fans of the logo. And the coolest news is that the brand new Polo GTI has a brilliant range of skills and makes a good case for itself as one of the more sensible offerings within the contemporary variety of supermini warm hatchbacks.

The Polo GTI has an excellent variety and breadth of competencies however despite packing Volkswagen’s ubiquitous turbocharged 2.0-litre engine under its bonnet it’s perhaps now not quite as feisty as its rivals. Those looking for the final thrills from their hot supermini could possibly be nice suggested to have a more in-depth take a look at Ford’s first rate Fiesta ST or MINI’s Cooper S. All three provide the first-class part of 200bhp but pass approximately their enterprise in quite disparate ways, with the Polo being the maximum ‘grown-up’ of the 3.

There’s surely not anything incorrect with the Volkswagen’s simple components and as a result it’s a excellent all-rounder however you would possibly sense that it’s not pretty as wonderful as its two major rivals whilst tackling a favorite back street. The turn facet of the coin is that the Polo GTI has its opponents overwhelmed for refinement on the motorway.

• The first-rate warm hatches to buy now

As you’d count on with a performance model of a supermini, the version line-up for the Polo GTI isn't always considerable, with simply variations to pick out from, the same old GTI and the GTI+. Both use the attempted and examined 2.Zero-litre VW Group turbocharged petrol engine mated to a six-pace DSG dual-take hold of transmission. Volkswagen is set to offer a guide gearbox in the close to destiny too, and we experience this will suit the automobile better.

The DSG works seamlessly while punching up thru the gears but is much less satisfied when changing down, with pauses among the ratios that hamper your development when seeking to make complete use of the auto’s overall performance. And given this is meant to be a drivers’ vehicle it’s possibly that many customers could be eager to have the extra interplay and manage related to a manual gearbox.

Both the GTI and GTI+ are very well ready with certainly sporty, despite the fact that rather constrained, styling add-ons. You get 17-inch alloys, sat nav, Bluetooth and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The most important difference between the 2 models is that the GTI+ gives Volkswagen’s Active Info Display which accommodates a ten.3-inch digital instrument cluster with customisable menus and displays. While it’s a terrific machine we don’t feel it’s worth the £1,500 fee top rate on the hot Polo.

Overall the Polo GTI takes a alternatively more mature tackle the new supermini than the general public of its opponents which can be keener to provide riding thrills. The Polo is perhaps a touch too refined and practical for its very own accurate when the complete reason for purchasing this version over a less expensive Polo version is to offer an wonderful driving experience. As an all-rounder it’s an brilliant prospect, just not an interesting one.
Engines, overall performance and drive
3.Eight
The Polo GTI gives top performance but in a as a substitute grown up way

The fashionable Volkswagen Polo is an eminently realistic premium supermini and the GTI model builds in this by way of including extra energy and a few extra poise thanks to a lower and greater sporting suspension setup. While this does add some sparkle to the Polo it’s by no means what you'll call clearly thrilling and in case you want the final in a thrilling supermini you’d be first-rate off searching on the Ford Fiesta ST.

The new Volkswagen Polo is a bigger automobile than before – it’s as large as a Mk4 Volkswagen Golf in some respects – and also has a much wider song than the antique version which gives it with a strong platform. Its suspension sits 15mm decrease than at the relaxation of the Polo range and with revised suspension settings and dampers that can be switched between Normal and Sport settings, it has the proper components to provide an interesting power.

However, the Polo GTI has been installation to provide safe and reassuring handling and as a result it doesn’t supply using thrills inside the equal manner as the Fiesta ST. It can also once in a while struggle to apply all of its energy with the front wheels scrabbling for grip and in place of fitting a mechanical confined-slip differential Volkswagen has opted for an digital device known as XDS which isn't as effective.

• The pleasant automatic cars to buy now

The guidance installation doesn’t offer as an awful lot feedback as those in some of the Polo GTI’s rivals, which makes it difficult to know while grip is ready to run out. The Polo GTI comes as widespread equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels and in this configuration the Polo’s journey is perfectly delicate. We’d recommend towards the optional 18-inch wheels though as this does make the experience a bit firm at times, specifically over rougher roads with the suspension set to its Sport putting. In Normal mode on the highway it's miles delicate though, absorbing bumps and mounds thoroughly.

Engines, zero-60 acceleration and pinnacle speed

There’s simply the only engine to choose from within the Polo GTI, a 2.Zero-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol that can also be found within the Golf GTI, but Volkswagen has tuned it for less power within the Polo. Having said that, with 197bhp it does experience short. The car completes the 0-62mph sprint in 6.7 seconds and has a pinnacle pace of 147mph which gives it definitely the same figures as the Fiesta ST and MINI Cooper S.

However, the Polo GTI’s engine does experience a touch flat when as compared to the muscular MINI and the revvy Fiesta and it’s now not as eager to rev to the pinnacle of its rev variety as its competition.

There’s best one transmission choice in the Polo GTI, a six-speed DSG dual-snatch gearbox, although it is predicted that a manual will in the end be part of the road-up. While the gearbox works properly in most respects it does have too long a postpone among shifts at instances when changing gears manually thru the steerage wheel-established paddles. Enthusiastic drivers might also choose the additional control and interplay that you may get with the manual transmissions in the Fiesta ST and MINI Cooper S.
MPG, CO2 and going for walks expenses
four.1
Decent economy and emissions tiers ought to imply that the Polo GTI gained’t break the bank

The Polo GTI’s legitimate fuel financial system figures below the new WLTP check process vary among 38.9 and 39.8mpg, depending on which wheels are fitted, and that’s pretty outstanding given the performance on provide. It’s just eclipsed via the Fiesta ST’s 40.4mpg, but it’s not a true evaluation as the Fiesta is simplest available as a manual while the Polo GTI can simplest be had with the DSG gearbox. The MINI Cooper S alternatively tiers from 38.7 for the guide to 43.5mpg for the automatic model.

All in all, the 3 class-leading models offer remarkably similar figures and given their sub-seven-2nd 0-62mph instances, we suppose the producers should be applauded for his or her efforts. With CO2 emissions of between 138 and 141g/km the Polo GTI isn’t quite as green as the automated MINI Cooper S even though, which manages a determine as low as 127g/km.

Image 11 of eleven

Image eleven of 11

In terms of Benefit-in-Kind (BiK) agency car taxation, the Polo sits in the 27 consistent with cent tax bracket even as the automated MINI Cooper S is one tax band decrease and the manual Fiesta ST sits one banding higher at 28 in step with cent. It’s worth noting that the guide MINI is substantially better within the 31 per cent bracket.
Insurance

As the Polo GTI is the performance version inside the variety you will expect to pay extra for insurance and it sits in institution 28 – precisely similar to the MINI Cooper S.
Depreciation

While the Polo GTI has a reliable picture it doesn’t provide stellar residual values, perhaps demonstrating that maximum Polo consumers are after one of the less performance-oriented versions. After 3 years and 36,000 miles experts are expecting it will maintain forty two according to cent of its unique buy rate that's the same as for the Fiesta ST however lagging behind the MINI Cooper S’s 48 consistent with cent.
Interior, design and generation
four.Three
Packed with era, properly-appointed and well prepare, the Polo GTI is a category chief as a long way as its cabin is going

In retaining with the Polo GTI’s all-round ability it’s secure to mention that the car’s styling is fantastically subdued for a warm supermini. It’s a good-looking automobile but the usual effect is diffused notwithstanding the GTI providing reshaped the front and rear bumpers, aspect sill extensions in addition to a gloss black rear spoiler and twin chrome exhaust tailpipes. As is the case with all Volkswagen’s GTI models, the Polo additionally features the traditional pink strip going for walks alongside the car’s front grille.

The fashionable Polo’s indoors has a first-rate experience to it with exceptional materials and a robust construct first-rate and for the GTI there are a number of upgrades in line with the sporty theme. The maximum apparent trade are the sports activities seats covered in a black and purple tartan fabric which might be height and lumbar adjustable to gain the suitable using function. They’re secure and preserve you in vicinity in the course of cornering.

Elsewhere there’s a sports multi-characteristic guidance wheel with purple sewing, a few aluminium pedals along side gloss black tool surrounds and pink highlights.

If you opt for the GTI+ version (which carries a £1,500 fee top rate over the same old Polo GTI) you get Volkswagen’s Active Info Display, which contains a ten.3-inch virtual instrument cluster with customisable menus and displays.
Sat-nav, stereo and infotainment

For the Polo GTI Volkswagen has equipped its brilliant infotainment device which includes an eight-inch touchscreen with sat nav, DAB radio plus Apple Car Play and Android Auto capability. It’s a well notion-out machine and offers the Polo a top rate sense. There’s additionally 3-year get right of entry to to Volkswagen’s Car-Net that gives you data on visitors conditions.
Practicality, consolation and boot space
4.2
The Polo GTI is larger than ever earlier than resulting in first rate interior lodging and a massive boot

As with maximum motors these days, the Polo GTI has grown drastically compared to its predecessor which makes it a very practical proposition and can be used as a family vehicle in case you don’t want a big amount of indoors accommodation. With its 5-door-most effective configuration it’s an excellent proposition from a practicality perspective – though the Fiesta ST and MINI Cooper S can both be ordered in this bodystyle too.

As properly as offering better passenger accommodation than the previous era Polo, the trendy Polo GTI has plenty of storage space for oddments and a decently-sized glovebox.
Size

At 4067mm lengthy, 1751mm extensive and 1438mm in peak the Polo GTI is larger than even the 5-door MINI Cooper S and is handiest 40mm narrower than the modern-day Volkswagen Golf.
Leg room, head room and passenger area

Thanks to its boom in size the Polo feels roomier inner than before, specially in the rear in which head room has multiplied by way of 21mm while there’s extra shoulder and leg room, too. Unsurprisingly three adults will war to be entirely comfortable for longer trips however there have to be plenty of space for three smaller kids.

Boot

The Polo GTI models don’t have quite the sort of huge boot as the non-GTI models, losing 46-litres of space over the ordinary Polo, however it still comprehensively trounces the MINI three-door’s 211 litres and even the 5-door’s 278-litres. The Polo GTI’s boot is also marginally large than the Fiesta ST’s which can accommodate 292 litres.
Reliability and Safety
four
With Volkswagen’s accurate reliability and protection report the Polo GTI must be a painless possession revel in

For many years Volkswagen traded on the tagline; ‘If best the whole lot in life changed into as dependable as a Volkswagen’ and its reputation for constructing strong and dependable motors stays to this present day. The new Polo is just too new for it to characteristic in our 2018 Driver Power survey however the Golf with which it shares many components positioned a creditable 18th out of 75 cars. As a manufacturer Volkswagen got here in fifth vicinity out of 26 brands.

As nicely as being dependable the Polo GTI have to be a safe prospect, scoring the maximum five-famous person rating whilst it changed into examined through Euro NCAP and Delta Car Wreckers. Adult occupant safety became rated as ninety six in step with cent while child protection become a little decrease at 85 in step with cent. Standard in shape protection systems consisting of Volkswagen’s Front Assist allows automatic emergency braking in addition to incorporating a pedestrian detection device.
Warranty

Volkswagen offers a 3-12 months 60,000-mile assurance at the Polo GTI which is beginning to look truly much less than amazing nowadays, even though it does match that offered by using Ford at the Fiesta ST. However, MINI has a 3-yr limitless mileage guarantee and of direction producers consisting of Hyundai and Kia stretch their warranties to 5 and seven years respectively.

Once the 3-year guarantee is up you should purchase a warranty extension with one of a kind fees for distinct ranges of cover.

Servicing

The Polo GTI may be sold with two unique servicing plans – Fixed for motors which might be in all likelihood to cowl much less than 10,000 miles a year and Flexible for automobiles that are possibly to do 25 miles or greater every day. Service plans generally cowl two services and fee just below £three hundred and also can be purchased in 18 month-to-month instalments of just over £sixteen.

Hello! Newbie here.

I recently took delivery of my Polo GTI+ (69 plate here in the UK).

I have a few points which I would appreciate some feedback on:

1) The brochure said the model comes with carpet mats with red stitching, but my car has plain mats installed. (Anyone got a photo of the mats with red stitching?)

2) I have noticed whilst driving on the motorway that there seems to be a noise leak coming from the door seal by my right ear.

Has anyone else had these problems? I've checked the integrity of the door seal but it all looks good to me, any ideas for how I can modify this to create a better seal?

Thank you.

Seems the brochure is still out of date.

As for the wind noise, I haven't experienced this myself

I just checked the mats in my car (ZAR 2019) and they have red stitching. Maybe this was left out of the EU spec while we dipped out on those inner bonnet blanket cover thing-a-ma-bobs.

Excuse the dirt!

Ditto on the wind noise, nothing from my side to report.

The pictures of nearly new GTI+’s that are for sale at VW dealers show the standard mats - no red stitching. It’s not unusual for there to be errors in VW’s product literature - actually it seems quite normal.

@Logan_Hunter; if you wanted mats with red stitching, you could always try to get your dealer to change them - point out that the spec details in the brochure state that GTI+ carpet mats should have red stitching and yours haven’t, so you want them changed at no cost to you 😉..........

Both of our GTI+ came with black/anthracite mats with red stitching on the piping/edges.

If you have a leaky door seal and the seal itself looks ok, I'd guess that the door isn't held as tightly against the door seal as it should be - likely needing door hinge or lock adjustments to pull them in a little. How does door alignment look against adjacent panels?

Thanks for the responses everyone!

MH - To be honest the door alignment hasn't caught my eye but I'll check when I get it back from the paint shop (rectifying some pre-delivery defects courtesy of VW). The car needs to be booked in with the service department because there are a couple of poorly fitted seals elsewhere (door handles etc) which need to be realigned. I'll see if they can do something regarding the door then, thanks for the advice!

Sounds like it can be a bit hit or miss when it comes to the red stitching (thanks for the photo) although it looks like they're not much of a loss. I might just buy some premium mats elsewhere with red detailing.

One thing that bothers me is their choice of white downlighting for the footwells/phone tray insert, I'm thinking of applying a red gel to the light. Has anyone got any experience of upgrading the interior lighting? Why they didn't design the car with the option to change the white dashboard trim light I don't know. I have opted just to turn it down to 0% for now..

Overall I love the car and I think it represents excellent value for money, but I'm somewhat disappointed in the build quality from VW on this one.

If you get the ambient light colour change sorted please let me know how you did it because that white light irks me somewhat :P I see the A1 has the ability to change the colour on the fly, like 4 or 5 variants.

I am looking at buying some theatrical lighting gels (the things they put in front of the laps to change the colour) and I'm just going to see how cutting a piece to size and laying it in front of the lamp looks first - low-cost low tech solution for now, I don't fancy spending £££'s on upgrading the lights.

This is what the mats are like in the previous generation Polo GTI (apologies for the poor quality photo);

Not just red stitching, but red piping around the edge. I wonder why VW didn’t have the same style of mats in the current Polo GTI / GTI+? I wouldn’t have thought it would have cost more than a few pennies to add the red piping.
