Thank you for confirming the details, I will mention the update when I book t in, might be a few weeks yet as it has to fit in with my schedule and also the major roadworks starting soon. I'll update once done and hopefully resolved the problemNorn Iron wrote: Sun Sep 08, 2019 1:20 pm Hi MilgeS,
Apologies, it was indeed the brake pads.
Please ask your dealer to contact HQ. It has to be the latest software release created for this problem plus new brake pads to rectify the issue.
Hope this helps with your car noise.

Re: Help! Rear wheel humming noise. Polo GTi
I had the same problem with my GTI+. Service Lady in the dealership said this is "normal" .So I contacted VW Executive office at their Head office in UK.
Within 15 minutes the Exe. office rang to say that they have authorise the dealer to change the brake pads and upgrade the ABS software.I must admit VW HQ were very very helpful indeed. What the new software does is it opens the brake calipers little wider and hence gives brake pads more clearance to avoid "rubbing" of pads against the disks.I hope this
makes sense.
Interestingly, the Service lady in the dealership had her GTI+ deliverd in March 2019 and she have had the same problem but accepted as fact of life!!
Guess what, she promptly booked her car for mods and thanked me for my effort I put in to resolve the issue.
I feel that VW should notify all the dealers if and when a common set of problem is identified and solutions to rectify them.

Mine went in for new pads yesterday (rear only) and, touch wood, I believe the problem is solved
They said they couldn't find a software update on the system so it was either done at the previous visit or recent service or it hasn't been released in the UK yet?

Mine does it too. Dealer couldn't recreate sound. I've now recorded it and will be going back in.

New discs and pads authorized for mine. I lazily assumed that the dealer was aware of this issue..they weren't. They are now.

Same here too, my dealer was unaware of the problem until I had to get VW HQ to follow up with the dealer.Even the Service lady in the dealership who owned
a GTI since march 2019, resigned to the fact it is "normal Noise" until now!

Just seen a few posts.
Work done last friday. New discs/pads and software update.
So far the brakes have behaved and the annoying sound has gone.

Hi mate,
Is the issue still gone? i ask because i had my car brake pads changed too and the noise went away for 2 days and started again afterwards.
Also i am dealing with VW australia HQ and they dont seem to know of this software update.
if the problem has well and truly gone with your new pads and software updates then i will try that with them.
would you happen to have any paperwork or article release of this issue and software update fix?

One month on and all is ok with mine.
I did not receive any supporting paperwork.
VW UK were in touch with Germany concerning the issue.
The sound recording I made for the dealership was forwarded to VW UK for analysis.
I was the first customer at my dealership to present with the problem...it was new to them.

Same here and VW ZA also "updated" the software during the cars 1st service, problem continues.

This was after work tonight: https://streamable.com/jpk9j. I wish I could say that noise was exaggerated, but it was actually louder than the video.
Sounds like a ship coming into port! I'm starting to think turning the steering wheel and reversing makes it worse.

That's how mine sounded before the work was done. Sounded like the QE2 coming into port.
Fingers crossed it doesn't return.

Mine still sounds like this. I noticed if I put it in neutral whilst going backwards, the noise isnt there.S_94 wrote:This was after work tonight: https://streamable.com/jpk9j. I wish I could say that noise was exaggerated, but it was actually louder than the video.

So I'm thinking the braking system is putting pressure on the rear pads when reversing.
