Advice please :)

Post by Cillatorstella »

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this so I'm not sure if this is the correct forum.

I've bought a VW Polo Twist, 1.4 petrol, 04 plate today, it is going into limp mode and the EM light is on, I've plugged in my OBD reader and its come up saying cylinder 3 (I can't remember if it said misfire or something else)

The person I bought it off told me shes been told it's the fuel filter, I am going to give it a full service anyway so I'll do that, I'm thinking its maybe the spark plug(s)

Any advice would be great.

Thanks in advance

I doubt it is the fuel filter.

Worthwhile checking the spark plugs. Swap cyl 3 spark plug to another and see if the fault moves. Otherwise it is likely the coil on pack that goes on the spark plug. You can swap this too and see if the fault moves. Keep in mind those faults can be intermittent if a component is failing.

If still an issue with that cylinder after swopping plug and coil, it could be the injector or a wiring issue with coil or injector for that cylinder.

Thank you,

I've plugged in the reader today and it's coming up with a
totally different fault now.

P0106 and P0170.

I've read this is the MAP sensor, when I start the car it feels as if it's going to stall, it's an automatic??

The engine should run (on a default setting ) with the MAP sensor disconnected. You could try that.

So I've took the sensor off and given it a clean, put it back on but not connected it, its running a lot smoother, still not 100%, when I started it up after doing the above it started and then conked out, after that its started all ok.

I'm going to give it a full service, full tank and Redex and change the spark plugs too, fingers crossed that fixes it.

Thanks for your help!
