Thank you everyone, especially SRGTD for the effort you made to provide me with details of your carpet mats. Legendary! Sorry for the late reply, I have been very unwell for the last month or so.

I think I'm going to make a purchase from carmats4u! :)

Interesting reading as my brakes make a ghostly woo noise when initially braking in reverse, so it sounds like I'll be taking the car back to VW for some attention.

I have a couple more questions for everyone:

- had anyone been experiencing a slight delay in terms of drive when selecting reverse? My car seems to pause and get confused for a second or two
- is there any way to stop the "focus on the road" prompt? Man it's annoying and that noise it makes when the timer has finished :?

Thanks, LH

I've experienced this on numerous occasions and yeah it's quite annoying. I like being able to quickly switch from drive to reverse and swing the car around (turn in the road) as you would on a manual but there's a definite delay on the GTI. Even had the car roll forward for a second or two and then stop so you can reverse. Find myself waiting now for that 1-2 second so I know it's ready to go. Is that normal for a DSG box?

Also had this numerous times.
It won't go into reverse if you're going too quickly forward, however I've had the delay even when I'm on the brakes.
Maybe it's just overly cautious ?

I suspect this is DSG related and not exclusively GTI? In the past I experienced similar issues in my old 6C and have come to expect this from a DSG box. Yes, it is annoying in traffic situations but it is what it is, a trade off for what is mostly a pleasant driving experience, for me anyways,

Yep get the same thing in mine. Sometimes it engages reverse right away, other times it takes two seconds where I've thought it was in reverse, took my foot off of the brake to go to the accelerator to only end up rolling forward and having to quickly jab back on breaks.

Never come across any focus on the road prompt, are you referring to the driver alertness system or the alert when the car thinks you are about to plough into a wall or rear-end a car infront?

Sounds like the driver alert system. It's got a timer, but the time gets reduced if your driving style starts to deteriorate.
Not sure if it can be switched off though.

Hello,

Have a polo GTI for 7 months - 3500Km, 11Km/L mostly in the city.
No problems at all. Drive like a charm. Hope it will continue.

Fairly sure that's an Android Auto specific thing as it doesn't happen when I am navigating my old iPod in the Media

Edit - Yes it is https://support.google.com/androidauto/ ... 8369?hl=en

I’ve had my GTI+ for a week now and I’ve done 366 miles. I got 45.6mpg on my drive home from work today which I think is pretty good.

I came from a Polo SE which could easily do 65mpg, I sometimes hit 70mpg but I did ride the clutch a lot.

I’ve had my GTI+ in Sports mode since day 1 but the gearbox in D. I actually like how firm it is. DSG is a life changer for me as I’m sometimes in stop start traffic for up to an hour. Clutch was wearing my foot out!

Ah okay - sounds like an Android Auto thing, great app but there is so much room for development in it. I'm thinking of providing them with some extensive feedback when I can be arsed.

Glad to hear it's not just me with the reluctant reverse engagement, it has changed my driving style a bit. No more rapid 3 point turns unfortunately.

There is definitely a seal problem with the drivers door/b pillar. Still getting a lot of noise from it and whenever a large truck overtakes me, I can feel a breeze against the side of my face when the airflow around the truck is being deflected sideways and onto my car and through the gap. Crazy!

p.s. Is there a way of permanently disabling start-stop? I change through eco, normal and sport mode quite often and getting quite irritated with it re-activating though every mode change

yes there is. I don't have any manual around right now but with VCDS you can setup minimum battery voltage for activation. So if you set up minimum to let say 15volts then it will never start because battery will never have that much

Hi All

I had my 1st Oil Service on the GTI.Really enjoying the car!
(At this particular dealership, the service advisor is a technician. which is great!)

I informed the tech about a rattle noise when i put the car in reverse or slightly release brake pressure when driving off.The noise would actually vibrate the center console interior. Found out it was the centre exhaust heat shield rattling. clip came loose on the heat shield.

I've had my GTI+ for a couple of weeks

It's a great car although still running it in so taking it easy at the moment

+ Great driving position and virtual cockpit
+ Love the LED lights at night time
+ Economy is very good, even with less than 500 miles on the clock

Few minor issues that I wondered if anyone can advise on?

- Closing the boot really requires a slam otherwise it seems to catch - is this normal?

- Interior light strip on dash seems dim on passenger side but bright from middle of car to drivers side - is this normal and can it be changed?

- There seems to be what can only be described as a metal/tinny sound coming from near drivers side speaker when driving with music on low - anyone had this?
