It's a great car although still running it in so taking it easy at the moment

+ Great driving position and virtual cockpit
+ Love the LED lights at night time
+ Economy is very good, even with less than 500 miles on the clock

Few minor issues that I wondered if anyone can advise on?

- Closing the boot really requires a slam otherwise it seems to catch - is this normal?

- Interior light strip on dash seems dim on passenger side but bright from middle of car to drivers side - is this normal and can it be changed?

- There seems to be what can only be described as a metal/tinny sound coming from near drivers side speaker when driving with music on low - anyone had this?

Hey

Yes the boot latch is the same on my GTI+, you do have to apply a little more pressure than usual.

Haven't noticed the issue with the led on the passenger side.

When slowing from third to second, the gear doesn't fully engage.
You can feel the car slowing but the revs are at 1k. So you know the clutches are slipping and slowing the vehicle down.

Is this what you are experiencing ?
Hey Matt.

I'm having this issue atm and I've been backwards and forwards to VW who are "investigating" have you taken yours to VW if so, what was the outcome/feedback they had provided.

If not, is it how I could be driving the car?

Had a look at a Polo GTI up close and personal whilst visiting the parts department today.

Honest thoughts of the interior are, it’s hideous. Not sure if this was a weird edition model, but it had a red plastic dash, I’m assuming to complement the red paintwork. Manual heating controls, looked like something Citroen would produce.

What is your current/previous car? Your standards seem exceptionally high.

I came from a 2015 Golf R and find the manual heating/aircon controls as good as you'd expect from a manual system - if you want dual zone then it is a paid for option. I've had dual zone as standard equipment on my last 2 Golfs and IMO I'm happy to have it as standard equipment but it wasn't worth £430 as an option to me.

Dual zone is not expected as standard equipment in this class of car, there is plenty of class leading tech as standard on the GTI+, like ACC, LED headlights, virtual dash and huge infotainment screen.

The GTI comes with 2 types of finish to the dash pads- either "Velvet Red" - a finish like red anodized aluminium (which you will have seen - a nice change to the drab anthracite on anthracite VAG interiors. I like it and have it on mine.

The alternative is "Deep Iron" - a high gloss metallic finish mercury shade of grey - my wife has it on hers, I like that too, slightly preferring it to my Velvet red, due to the depth of gloss.

For me, the cheapest looking interior touch is the very basic looking grab handles. If they'd spent another quid on each one, the interior would be lifted a lot.

Get the boot latch sorted quick. I thought that a stiff boot latch that required a slam was probably characteristic of the Polo. When I realised that I was getting micro chipping on the lower boot edge as it was contacting the inner lip of the rear bumper's boot lip, I knew something was up. The local garage confirmed that the latch was not set up right. VW UK wouldn't entertain a warranty claim because it was about 2 weeks after a 6 month "door adjustment" clause on the warranty had elapsed (I was unaware of such a clause). It is easy to identify - if your striker plate inside the boot lip is towards the rear of the trim cut out (as you look into the boot) rather than towards the front, it is incorrectly adjusted.

I sorted mine myself - easy adjustment with the surrounding trim pulled off, and I filled in my paint chips (which couldn't be seen with the boot lid closed).

Have a search through my posts around April/May/June this year and you'll find before and after pics.

A well adjusted boot should almost close itself under gravity from a horizontal boot lid position. It should not require a slam. Seems a common assembly error that PDI could easily pick up on and correct then relay back to the factory.

As for DSG - yes, it slips the clutch momentarily on up shifts and downshifts to smooth out the gear change and will frequently slip 2nd when decelerating to a stop in heavy traffic rather than engaging 1st gear then neutral.

Hello Polo Gti owners, I am new here but have owned plenty of vw's , Currently using a polo 1.0 tsi , was supposed to be just for a short time as i planned my next car , maybe the golf mk8, but thats scrapped as i dont like the look at all..
So now as i am enjoying the polo so much i have decided to try a Gti polo .... I have owned previous mk5 mk6 mk7 gti's and a mk7.5 R which i did not like, so i hope the Polo Gti will be quite fun to own.. Not sure what model to order yet though, The Gti or Gti+ ..

Don't like the Golf R? What is it you don't like? I had one for 46 months - manual, Lapiz Blue and Prets. Longest I've ever kept a car. Very fast off the line, very capable, and yet felt a bit dull for me unless I was wringing its neck - that's the trade off for exceptional stability I guess- it was fast but didn't feel fast due to the refinement. Hot hatches are meant to be fun!

I know I will be shot down for this, but the GTI is an SE spec Polo with a bigger engine and a couple of body mods. if you want the extra's your looking at a GTI+.
Though for a car with a 0 - 62 MPH of just over 6 seconds it's not a bad priced motor.

Mine was manual too (I much prefer manual to DSG), but the box was never right from day 1 - feeling gritty on the change as if the cogs were skimming each other on changes and occasionally it was reluctant to go into 1st at a stop without feeling you were going to have to use excessive force to get it in. I'm sure linkage adjustment was off a little. None of the local dealerships would entertain an adjustment. They assumed it was characteristic of the car because they hardly came across another manual R in 3 years of asking everytime it was in for something else.

Sounds like we had very similar experience with the manual r then...

One question about the gti + then is does sat nav come with that model. Or is it just the bigger screen

Nav isn't standard on the GTI+, it's a £650 option. I have it on mine because I jumped on a cancelled order in May 2018 which had locked in spec for Nav and rear view camera. The car was built 2 weeks later and I received it Aug 1st 2018. I wouldn't have added either option to a factory fresh order as phone nav options are far better
IMO. Rear visibility being great and the fact you have parking sensors will be good enough for anyone that has no need to park an inch off an obstacle. My wife's GTI+ was ordered from scratch with 18" Brescias, white paint and no other equipment options (with deep iron dash pads).

Visually, I think that the Brescia wheels have a great impact, for not a lot of money (relatively). I am biased in that I'm really not a fan of the Parker wheels. The only downside to Brescias is the awful Bridgestone Turanza tyres that come with. I changed out to Michelin PS4, as a car with a bit of performance needs a capable tyre. The Bridgestones are hard, noisy, with really poor traction and grip in the wet or dry (compared with almost any other main brand (Dunlop, Pirelli, Uniroyal, Michelin, Continental etc.

For a performance car they really squandered the cars abilities by putting inferior tyres on the car.
I have the 18" Brescia on my GTI+ and if I put my foot down from a standing start it just wheel spins, pity really as you'd expect decent tyres on a car that isn't exactly cheap, goes the same with wipers haha, to which I had to replace over the weekend as the factory fitted ones weren't smooth and scrapped across the screen, so Bosch blades bought..

I generally use Android auto for my entertainment and navigation needs, alot more up to date and easier to use I find.
