What did you and your Polo do today?
Re: What did you and your Polo do today?
Tried to get insurance sorted on my 1.0 polo tsi .... quote with axa who ive had for years was £250 .... £10 more than it was costing to insure my Golf R !!! Phoned them up and they would not budge, found this really strange considering the difference in cars..
Found a new insurer and best quote was £160....

Is the ACC system standard on the trim level of Polo you have currently? That system can go a long way to minimising risk of rear ending a car in the eyes of some insurers. My Golf R was a tenner less toinsure than my GTD with the same ACC system.
Re: What did you and your Polo do today?
Yea I have the acc on the polo , great system

Re: What did you and your Polo do today?
GTI sent in wednesday for brake check, apparently I had the most recent software, so other than giving the mechanics on duty that day a joyride excuse, absolutely nothing came of it. Brakes still moo’ing like field full of cows

I also ordered the “custom” resonator delete pipe mod, which I really look forward to mounting and hearing in person.
I’ll see if I remember doing some before/after vids.

Insurance seems to have no logic at times. I have just got my renewal quotes in the for 2 GTI+ we have in the household, with my wife being main driver on the newer one.brynteg73 wrote: Wed Nov 06, 2019 8:39 pm Tried to get insurance sorted on my 1.0 polo tsi .... quote with axa who ive had for years was £250 .... £10 more than it was costing to insure my Golf R !!! Our renewals with Quote me happy are as good as I've found on the comparison sites (I have found a little cheaper for me, but a lot more for the wife on the comparison sites, so inclusive of multicar discounts, we're better off staying where we are for the 2 cars).
My Quote is £359, with 25 years driving, 15+ years no claims, no convictions in last 5 years and 2 non fault accidents in the last 5 years for which my insurance didn't pay a penny towards settlement.
My wife's quote is £278, she's been driving 4 years, has 4 years no claims and is 2 years younger than me. Not that it's reportable in the quote, but she can't parallel park to save her life!
How the hell is she 23% cheaper than me? Seems to be a lot of emphasis on those non-fault claims and not much recognition for 11 years NCD over and above the wife. A lot of insurers don't count beyond 6 or 7 years, but even so, I thought it would more than cancel out those non-fault claims.

Insurers’ premium calculation algorithms are very complex these days, using multiple risk factors. Claims and convictions, driver age and driving experience will be some of the risk factors used to calculate the premium but there’ll be may other risk factors used, and some insurers might also be using information about us that we’ve consented to them obtaining that we might not immediately associate with the risk of insuring a car.monkeyhanger wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2019 4:00 pmInsurance seems to have no logic at times. When we sign up to a new insurance, we’ll almost certainly be giving consent to an insurer carrying out a number of searches to collect information about us as individuals from various sources. There’s a good chance they may use some of this information in assessing what type of individuals we are and what type of insurance risk we represent, and it could be some of this additional information that has a bearing on your premium. Quote Me Happy certainly carry out various information searches and checks that you’ll have consented to them carrying out. From the Quote Me Happy website;
Credit Searches and use of Third Party Information
To ensure we have the necessary facts to assess your insurance risk, verify your identity, to help prevent fraud and to provide you with our best premium and payment options, the insurer may:
- Obtain information from third parties including a quotation search from a credit reference agency. This search will appear on your credit report and will be visible to other credit providers. It will be clear that this is a quotation rather than a credit application by you to pay by monthly instalments.
- Use information relating to you and your car supplied to us by other third parties.
